Believe MW at roos TS at pies and GS who most know, are behind all this. GS was a lobey kind of guy, the other 2 are good mates who don't want it to happen for their own personal reasons and they think that they are g.. anyways. So in a nutshell I think most clubs are seeing through this political shit. I know a few clubs have got together now and looked at ways of helping Birdwood get some points in lower grades wiithout harming their own lot - It is all getting very interesting. Lobey are the only ones losing any support from this, although having said that the previous 2 clubs mentioned above have not won any either. Probably due to arrogance. Interestingly I do know a leading QC has looked at this situation when asked from a club that does not want an 11 team comp and based on what he says it cannot constitutionally occur. Believe the well known person is happy to act for nothing in taking the appropriate action if required so that the integrity of the competition is not damaged. Think the HFL board need be very very careful in what it does in this instance. Would be a pity to see a great comp in disarray due to the pig headedness of a club that is not good enough to be where it is and does not deserve to be there. Hopefully common sense prevails.

Very well written 'has been' I couldn't have stated better myself. You've hit the nail on the head in every category. Lets not destroy our competition based on the arrogance and stupidity of a few.

Think you'll find Bridgey are ok! Will get a few players back over the coming weeks, so therefor will be fielding a stronger team. The coach is travelling along quite well, definitely has the support and respect of the players and my guess is you may see a changed outfit after the break. Won't be world beaters but will definitely improve a bit more.

the club must have crossed a black cat, cause this year has seen long term injuries to key recruits such as josh charles and nick malanovski. still lacking a little depth to compete with the big boys, but on the improve. i think both are back next round v birdwood after missing the past 8-10 weeks. look for a solid last seven games.

that is a long layoff, are you bringing them up through the b grade? one would think this is an absolute must win for birdwood if they are any chance of staying in central?

Good to see 10 players from Hills in Central side for country champs. Well done to Onka's Ironbank and Blackwood for supporting the concept. As usual Mt Ronny and cabbage patch kids being top sides could not get any in or was that send any players out - all injured I hear ............................................................. What else can one say. Hopefully those players competeing on the weekend do themselves proud. Looks like it will be a treat weather wise and I believe the oval is in real good nick.

9 players were selected from Uraidla & Mt Barker to train with the Country Championship squad and not one of them is in the selected team. There's no way they're all injured, I hope the HFL see fit to suspend these guys for the next round. I guess these guys don't give a rats about the HFL. Throw the book at them Owen.

Your not suggesting that other teams would lose games for Birdwood to stay in the central comp. That comment is one of the dumbest I have ever seen on this site and that takes some doing. Please explain How other clubs could help birdwood without throwing games?

ATS although I love watching the association and country champs we have to be realistic and realise the final prize at the end of the season for any of the top 5 sides is far more important then a weekend of footy for southern districts. These boys would like 1 or 2 weekends off, during footy season to go away or spend time with a family etc. same thing has happened in AFL with no more state of origin so the HFL has to realise this. From actually seeing the Mt barker and Uraidla game I can tell you a lot of those boys would be sore from playing eachother the week before. At the end of the day these guys are trying to win a flag for their club and getting injured in this game would be pointless. If handorf were a big chance for the flag I wouldnt want gags and barta running around on their week off thats for sure. Who is playing from your club ATS?

hi sledge
things are going along nicely. ideally a few more wins on the board would have us pushing for a spot in the 3, but as others have said we lost some key players and the depth maybe isnt quite there at the moment.
the coach is doing a sterling job and i think if we can get our full compliment of players on the paddock we are capable of upsetting a few higher rank teams inthe run home, as proven by our memorable win over mount lofty earlier in the season.
future is bright with some really strong performances from our juniors.

also inspirational effort by connor healy. the lad has come on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of seasons. still remember him rucking his heart out in a great win over ironbank last season. do the mighty RAIDERS proud young man.

have to agree with ATS throw the damn book at those who refuse to represent our mighty competition. if players arent fair dinkum i know 21 blokes out at the FORTRESS who would gladly represent the district in the country champs.

cant wait for the rest of the season to unfold.

Vaughan youre either the funniest guy on this forum forever taking the p1ss or the most delusional. Your teams not even pushing for 7th spot let alone one in the 5. Given your clubs pathetic on field performances over the years its a strectch to conceive that they ever put 21 decent A grade footballers on the park for the club let alone representing the Hills.

But I am sure youre really the funniest guy on the forum and you laugh yourself to sleep thinking about how you suck us in with your deliberate dribble

So are you saying the reps from Blackwood, Onka's and Ironbank don't have their eye on the final prize? I'm sure they do... ok the odds are stacked in the favour of Mt Barker and Uraidla but these lads still have the same desire to win a flag. Tell me, if you know... Is it the clubs stopping the players from playing or both? How many of these players provided a legitimate reason for not representing the League? A bare few I suggest. Comparing State of Origin in the AFL is ridiculous because 9 out of 10 players in the AFL want it back on the agenda. As for some of the younger players playing over the weekend I can guarantee there will be some AFL scouts in the stands watching, I'm sure of this because I know a club recruiting officer who is attending. For this reason I hope these clubs aren't holding back players, particularly the young ones because you might just be holding back the one shot at a very successful AFL career. Well done to these selfish clubs with no respect for the Hills Football League. I hope the flag goes to a club sitting outside the top two.

All this talk of the HFL 'throwing the book' at the players that didn't head out to country champs try outs is pretty mis-informed.

What 'book' should be thrown? The final siren?

Players are welcome to decide whether to give up an extra weekend to play footy at a higher level or not. They shouldn't be forced into it, or penalised for not turning up. Each to their own.

Well done to the players that did get selected. There's a pretty healthy contingent from the HFL.
