Actually, I'm re-reading it. This book has a special place in my heart as I gave it to my Grandfather three years before he died. He let me keep it when he knew that he didn't have any time left. Every time I read it I think of him.

One of the best Cricket books I have ever read. Talks up the good Doctor's many achievements but does not gloss over the many short comings that he had to give a very honest look at 'The Great Cricketer'.

CMJ is usually a very good writer.
REB, is it his writing or just the story in general that interests you so much?
I'd be keen to read this one. The man was a giant of his times.

Both mate. An impartial biography, as opposed to the fawning ones that have been written earlier. This one is WG, warts and all.

The Motorcycle Diaries - Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

Haven't seen the movie yet. Must admit I can't understand the fuss about the book.

Just finished reading "Beneath Hill 60".
The true story behind the movie. Pretty good. I can't even begin to imagine what they went through. Crazy.

Just finished Atonement by Ian MacEwen.
Now on to The Summer Game by Gideon Haigh. About cricket in the 50's and 60's, first published in late 90's and recently republished.
Highly recommend both in their own way.

Not a great book by any stretch.

Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor's screenplay much better.

One of the rare times you can say the film is better than the book...

A small volume of essays by one of the great cricket writers. Bought it when I visited the Bradman Museum in Bowral

Currently, Along Came A Spider by James Patterson.
He is one of my favourite authors, along with David Baldacci and Jodi Picoult.
I buy most of my books at the Lions Bookshop at Tusmore. Great bargains there as most books are about $3. Also, all the money goes to charity so you can't go wrong.
Cheers
