Funny, didn't think there was any Centrals fans whinging about anything this year. Just Norwood fans upset we didn't bow down and worship them for a narrow minor round win. Sounds to me like you might feel as if Norwood's already had their climax to their season.

Really entertaining game yesterday, both sides will have seen positives from there performance and while its great to get the win and go 2 games clear top i don't think this game will reflect how the finals will be played and would never rule out the current Glenelg squad.

The key for Centrals in my opinion was going direct, every time the Dogs started kicking long inside 50 they looked very dangerous. While for Glenelg whenever they were on top there forward line pressure was brilliant and they were forcing massive skill errors from the Dogs defence.

Was surprised with the move of Hayes up forward but he was brilliant and may have found a new position especially if we can get Havelberg on the park. Habel and Boyd probably had there best games in the red white blue, Boyd was probably the most consistent four quarter player while Habels last quarter was the difference between the sides.

Interestingly alot of the Dogs games this year have been played in ebbs and flows with sides kicking 3-4 goals then the other returning the favour.

Sutherland didn't suffer second game blues and seemed to gain confidence as the game wore on. I heard we'd know why he left Glenelg today. Unless he had too much heart and ability for them, I can't see why.

His one possession game really hurt us

As predicted the back 2 back 6 day breaks killed us in the last quarter, as they do any footy team these days.

Not an acceptable loss but I wouldnt take too much from it. To be brutally honest Centrals should have put us to the sword after that first quarter and won by 10-15 goals. Some excellent midfield work got us back in the game and to be in the game at 3/4 time was pleasing.

The job is still well and truly in front of the Bays, and thats how Id prefer it to be, no need to get in front of ourselves like we possibly did in 2008. We arent playing anywhere near how we have played over the past 2 seasons so Im still hoping there is another level we can hit later in the year.

Great Presidents lunch as usual, nice of them to arrange Nathan Grima to be guest speaker again , the whole Grima family were at the game cheering on the Bays.

I was having a bit of fun saying you would find out next week (hence the wink), as part of the pre-match rev up between our camps.
I did clarify in a later post that when Pumpa left the GFC there were a few other developing ruckman who were committed and dedicated to both the club and team, hence the reason he was not agressively chased to reconsider.
Another poster hinted he had lost his cool whilst at GFC a few times, and I agreed that both Mickan & Godden would both be aware of it.

Oh OK. I have my sarcasm metre turned off. I like his crazy passion. I think he fits the culture of our club - like the other crazies we have Hayes, Dutschke who follow in the footsteps of Danny Hulme. It wins premierships.

Dogs to good in the end. Wasnt a 10/10 performance but the second half was very positive. The other positive for myself was Paul Thomas and Ian Callinan(two best players for CDFC this year IMHO) didnt have big games. Great to see James Boyd get BOG for the dogs, after some suggested he would struggle to make the dogs side in the preseason. Boyd has settled in very well. Andrew Hayes, Leigh Spurr have taken their games to another level this year. While the twins were very busy yesterday in the clearances. Gunston and Schell looked a good pairing up forward.

With Goodrem Havelberg Sansbury Cochrane to come back after the bye. Plus a few possibly being made available via AFL selection Nash,Griffin, Henderson. THe dogs are set up very nicely for the second half of the year.

Thanks Dutchy for a great day yesterday again. Good to meet SJABC aswell. Special mention to SMAC who I met last week in the corporate box but forgot to mention it.

I still cant believe we did not get who was the last player to win a norm smith in a losing GF side ???

first term, glenelg were nervous & had perceived pressure on us at times while central were far more polished

2nd term, we beat central at their own game & i had belief then that we would match them & could win

3rd term, i was expecting & we got a central side asking us a question & by the end of the term i thought we'd answered them enough, in the sense that we had replied & snatched the lead back

last term, was expecting the game to go down to the wire, but clearly after centrals first 2 goals i witnessed a few heads drop & instead of fighting back we seemed to just give up


while not the end of the world, the players must go in expecting to win rather than hoping to win, both teams will have a different look about them later in the year & that's where it'll matter the most, but if our players go into games hoping to win rather than expecting to win we will continue to get beaten in crucial stages of important games

central are well drilled but their best assett is 'upstairs' (mentally) they believe & work hard & harder & longer than we did

has anyone one else heard that a retired premiership player is making a comeback in the near future? i know there is alot of them but this one thinks that perhaps the gowans boys might get one up on him

The Slade rumour has been around all year BUT honestly i think he would struggle to make the side considering he hasn't done a pre season and would then be taking the place of a young player such as Habel or Boyd who have been playing extremly well. I would be very surprised if he did comeback and even more surprised if he played league.

Something i found interesting in yesterdays game was at Half Time one of the Gowans boys kept the Dogs players out on the oval by the fifty meter arc northern end for 5 minutes after the siren. The team were in a huddle and Gowans was pointing directions out, was very controlled there was no ranting or raving just had a brief chat and pointed out a few things. imho showed brilliant leadership after a very ordinary quarter.

Sladey is pretty fit, but as mentioned would be reluctant to potentially take someone elses spot. However, your rumour might be a little bit "confused". Watch this space in August. and the Gowans will still be safe - just.
