Is Stuart MacGill to be or not to be?

With Warnie's retirement at the end of the Ashes, what are your thoughts on how the selectors will replace Warne.

Alot of media outlets are suggesting MacGill will be the man for the job, there is not doubt at his best he is the best spin bowler in Australia behind Warne and has produced at test level, but this is only a quick fix with MacGill only having IMHO three years left in him at best.

Other prospects include:
Callum Bailey: Warne has called for him to be his prodigy, yet while being consistent he hasn't set the world on fire, plus his probably SA second spin bowler when Cullen is fit.

Dan Cullen: The best off spinner in Australia, has already debuted and no doubt has an international career in the wings, BUT is only just coming back from injury and is definalty not at his best but is getting there.

Cameron White: Bowling is definatly not up to test standard level yet and many believe it will never get there, but the fact he can bat reasonably well and has plenty of potential with bat which may intice the selectors.

Beau Casson: The Roughy, Decent spin bowler at stages he has taken big bags of wickets and is a very attacking bowler which is to his advantage. Also plays for NSW which can't be a disadvantage in premature selctions.

I think Warne is irreplaceable, Mcgrath might be easier.
Macgill will take over but he is getting older and his recent NSW form is ordinary
Casson/Bailey/Cullen/ are not ready or good enough
White is an allrounder o/d spinner, in tests not on what he has shown too date
Hogg is primarily a o/d bowler.
Heal is grabbing wickets for WA but unproven at domestic level
Hauritz/Krezja/Doherty not food enough
Doran have not seen him bowl so ????

Go with the proven Macgill for a couple of years and hope that another spinner is ready.

I'm not daring to compare Bailey with Warne for one moment. Nor do I think at this time he should be chosen to play for Australia, although I do think it is inevitable.

However, your point about him not setting the world on fire raises an interesting point. Cast your mind back to early 1992 when an overweight under-prepared blonde legspinner made his Test debut. Arguably, Bailey has already done more at this stage of his 1st class career than Warne had upon his Test debut.

I have no doubt Bailey will play a number of Tests for Australia, I've been predicting it for 4 years now. It will be interesting when the selectors decide to give him a try.

Oh ... and his name is Cullen Bailey.

No, I don't like Cameron White because he couldn't bowl me out if I was batting with a tooth pick in the dark. :)

Stuart MacGill's gonna be under the spotlight, being compared to Warnie...
Hope the media pressure (specially U.K.) doesn't affect his game.
