Web Show with KG and Phil Smyth

A mate sent me the link below for a webcast with KG and Phil Smyth has anyone watched it or for that matter had anyone heard about it?

Haven't watched it yet but then again knew nothing about it.

It's the new Roots.

Watched it on the weekend.

Goody Saints were mentioned in every second sentence, it was riddled with basic pronounciation errors and the SAAFL now ends at division 6 apparently.

Mark Shadiac didnt even know who was playing when asked. Only game he remembered was ROCS v Uni.

They also still had OB listed as coach of North Haven. Now considering OB actually resigned BEFORE the deal was even made for this show, you would think that a week would give Mr Porter more time to get the correct information and slides organised.

Other than that, it actually has the potential to be an excellent production. The layout of the show seems to be really good in theory but just like the paper, will only be ruined by the fact that there is no one on board that knows anything about the SAAFL.

I agree...a few teething problems, but if the producer spends a little more time getting KG and Phil up to speed with the SAAFL teams etc it could be very good!!

Just listening to the shows now as I spend a Sunday catching up on work - something Ive done for the past 3 years.

Just listening to guests: Steven Hall and Macca and gotta say:

1. Its getting better every week - the first few were always going to difficult but the last couple I have listened to were good.
2. I could never get Ch 31 so never watched Grassroots on TV
3. Seem to be a lot of Grassroots fans coming out of the woodworks complaining about the new show. Probably the same no of people that complained about the cost of it To be perfectly frank, it was poorly supported by some people (but not those on the show)
4. As far as I know, the new show is NOT costing the clubs but has the potential to make the League some income because there is a revenue sharing agreement between the 2 parties, so that argument is carp

FFS, give it a chance - if its not costing us money and it is getting better

Sorry to go on about this, but having a beer with a delegate last night and he pointed out that the decision to dump Grassroots was made completely independantly of the deal with AustraliaLiveTV and it would appear that some of the reasons given to us about why Grassroots should be dumped may have been, well lets just say.........massaged...........

I listened to the rest of the shows last Sunday and it is getting much better although some of the guests probably need to be given some help on the lower grades. Notwithstanding, that is relatively simple to fix. I didn't watch the 1st year of grassroots but I suspect they may have gone through a similar problem

And I did get an e-mail yesterday from a mate living overseas who says he and a few ex Adelaide mates watch it on Monday nights - all ex Amateur League players

As somebody involved with the Roots I completely support the decision to end up...

Regardless of the quality (which was high up until to end) the biggest issues were:

- Relying on volunteers to shoot and edit footage

- More importantly C31 not being digital...ultimately if it was you could justify it

Nothing against ole KG and the General but it would be good to have some people with the knowledge there...I hope the league has a long term plan to have some amateur league people fronting in and maybe see if they can use the technology to webcast some names...

Tried to log on tonight and am getting the sound double..(echo with a 2 second delay)...

RPH show is improving as well so I encourage people to rediscover it..

Also interesting to see that 'Talking Amateurs' is having less articles and more ads

Fine line between Advertising and articles or you would end up with the debacle from last year when the Amateur League spent all that money and only retrieved about $3,000 in Advertising. Ultimately you have to have Advertising to pay for it OR as has been done in the past by the League - JUST SLUG THE CLUBS FOR MORE MONEY. It is not a Business model unless something is self funding or it will ultimately collapse anyway.

With outdated teamlists (when you can print out the current ones) and limited reading it is no longer the compulsive read it once was

Team lists are up to date as of the previous game and 4 pages added in the centre of the book to accommodate the additional Advertisers, if you look care to look at last years editions. Only 1 less article than last year and the statistics on readership would suggest that people are reading it even more than last year. As I have seen the statistics. Actually up by 27% or about 1,600. Think that because of the 4 added pages of adverts it is more optical than fact. We can always have the Amateur League version that costs mega bucks and drags in 3K and the costs far outway the income.

Not all team lists are up to date Top End
Eg, Wiles played against PAC in round 6, he didnt play in round 7 and in the round 8 budget, last weekends one, we was still on there and we didnt know he was playing till after the budget had been printed.
Another example is Rhys Jones for Gaza, he played a few rounds back but was still in round 8's team sheet.

Your not wrong with your point if it didnt have sponsors then it would flop, but seems to be over advertised atm. Need to spread those 4 pages of sponsors out not just have them all stuck together in the centre. IMO anyway.

Working back again tonight and listened to both 5RPH and KG & The General shows from last Friday - they are different shows but both enjoyable.

The 5RPH show is so much better this year with Peter Thatcher and I really enjoy Mick Emmett's session

The KG & General Show - Sean Jackson and Macca were on and it is getting better and better each week - The show is different from 5RPH and i'm glad it is - we dont want 2 shows going over the same thing

Still yet to see Simply Footy but, like everyone else, I'm at the footy when it's on

The KG & General Show - Sean Jackson and Macca were on and it is getting better and better each week - The show is different from 5RPH and i'm glad it is - we dont want 2 shows going over the same thing

Still yet to see Simply Footy but, like everyone else, I'm at the footy when it's on

When we played Rosies a couple of weeks back we had a good away from home win in trying conditions, the only mention we got was that only 15 players showed up for the B's, well played .

My only gripes with the on-line show (and this has been communicated to the producer) are as follows:

1) It is too div 1/2 orientated, there are 5 other divisions in the league and I've been advised that most of these clubs may never be featured as they don't have coaches or people within the club that "interview" well. Which is why they came up with the idea to pay $200 to have a camera out at your club and feature it on the show.

Now the first question that pops into my mind is- my club has already paid it's bit for this show- why should we pay any extra just have our club name mentioned?

Well I'm sure when it comes to the media review at the AGM, the 70% of clubs which make up divs 3-7 won't be voting to keep it as there is nothing in it for them...

2) Although you cant deny that KG and the General come across very well, it is blatantly transperant that they know absolutely nothing about the league and even the likes of Macca (who has been on the show regularly) has no idea of anything from div 3 down. It's very fustrating. It's all very well to hand them a script for the last segment but how about you actually get someone on the show that knows a bit eh?

Sorry, there's a gripe 3) This is the AMATEUR LEAGUE SHOW, not the "Let's carry on about all the ex AFL and SANFL players in the league show" FYI - they're NOT amateurs and it's not about them. These blokes have had their 5 mins of fame and while you cant begrudge the fact that they're "giving something back to grassroots footy" at the end of the day they're being paid a small fortune to do so. Let's concentrate a bit more on the blokes that are playing for the right reasons.

Nice work there FC, totally agree.

Personally I love KG, The General and Macca....they are the presenters. My point lies with the Production Team....Get out to all clubs the stories are there!

You know if the Executive Producer who I understand is a Journalist wandered out to the local SAAFL clubs I'm sure he could find some real characters. Sure not all would be Media Personalities with "on camera" experience or former AFL or SANFL Players. However wouldn't that be their appeal to this SAAFL audience...us! The rank and file of amateur Suburban Footy!

I'm sure there are plenty of REAL South Aussie personalities at each of our local club's with colorful stories and anecdotes to share about their club's and various Divisions from U/18's to C Grade to A1 surely we don't have to pay an additional service fee for this Production Team to do their job.

And hey I know a couple of people around the SAAFL at local clubs who have basic media experience, if that really is the issue.

Somehow I don't think that is an audience need that is a hurdle created by the Producers.

TV Production 101 is target your audience and we'll forgive the production qualities and "on camera" experience of real SAAFL characters.

Interesting comment about the clubs $$$ contribution to podcasts FC - made me sit back and think - did the League pay that money to AustraliaLiveTV? I thought I saw somewhere in a SAAFL publication that West End were picking up the tab.
