The rest of it is about having buckletloads of leadership on and off the field, on the field in setting an example, going in hard, voice, trying to individually change the outcome of a game and off the field in how they carry themselves.

James McDonald, Nick Maxwell and previously Richie Vandenberg are others that come to mind where a few eyebrows may have been raised initially. This decision for the captaincy will be the hardest one the Crows have ever had IMO as there is no clear standout.

Wouldnt suprise me if they err on the side of caution and give it to McLeod or Edwards, whichever one stays on for another year!

Neither of those two will be playing next year either voluntarily or pushed out

I have not been approached to coach at the WFC this year, next year or any year. I have not approached the WFC to coach this year, next year or any year. This is an unconditional statement.

I'd be happy with any one of Maric, Van Berlo, Rutten, Thompson or Bock. I think Symes would be a good VC, but probably not captain material.

Agree. Patrick Dangerfield should be the next Crows captain.
Has all the qualities of a captain, leads by example, etc.
Unfortunately, this won't happen under the current regime at the Crows. Vision and football wisdom, are not their forte.

Aren't Essendon pressing very hard to get Dangerfield signature, apparenlty they have alot of Salary Cap room to entice him.

Dnagerfield as skipper sits ok with me but would think as usual the crows will err on the cautious side and not take a risk as usual and go with Rutten or Van Berlo  :D

Dangerfield is not ready to be captain next year. Leave him alone to establish himself as one of the better players in the comp first.

Pavlich is now carrying chronic injury.
He is doing a good job despite it, but he is fast becoming an uncertain prospect, and I think it is too late in his career to invest heavily in him now.

All players in the AFL are carrying injuries after several years wear and tear and the damage accumulates with time - surgical repairs can only do so much.
Pavlich is 29 and was obviously limping at times against the Crows and the commentators mentioned that he had been in earlier matches, too, this year.
The current issue is said to be a recurring calf muscle problem, but it may prove to be secondary to something structural underneath, so I wouldn't chase him.
I would have thought the Crow's Carey experience demonstrates the risk of recruiting players later in their careers.
I think it is better to recruit and develop good youngsters, than buy "stars".

we had some bloke named Mark Riccuito at Aldinga for lunch on Sunday, and he seemed pretty sure VB will have the "c" next to his name next year. had massive wraps for Dangerfield aswell, but he thinks he's guna be a bit unlucky, in terms of if he had been around for 2 more years, he'd be the first choice.

SCOTT THOMPSON.

Basically, anyone but Rutten or VB. VB is a B grader at best, disposal is shocking.

Agree. I'm not a huge fan of Thompson, but without too many outstanding contenders he wouldn't be a bad choice.

Totally agree but won't happen.
Thommo doesn't fit the Neil Craig mould of the footy nerd/athlete who gets straight A's in school....VB is a certainty unfortunately :(

A captain needs brain skills and to not be an extreme jock - the best player is not necessarily the best Captain.
VB seems certain in those terms. Dangerfield will probably be next.
Mind you didn't Doughty fill in yesterday? Nobody has considered him seriously as a prospect here, but NC may like him.. 8)

Certainly not Van Berlo or Reilly, both go missing in important games. Either Thompson or bite the bullet and give it to Rodney Dangerfield and let all the young kids mature together as players.

In reality he should not be in Crows colours in 2011.

"west adelaide players in the Roo, Goodwin (played at Westies before south ), next it could go to Schmidt, Rutten, Porps, Tippett, Edwards"

Recon Danger was a westies player as well
