Well, my day off is today and I'm heading down to Normanville to play The Links, Lady Bay.

I can't wait!

Great course. If ya havn't played it, try Mt Compass aswell. My fave in SA.

BRUTAL!!!!!!!....thats the only word for the Lady, played it about 10 times and its my favourite, been lucky enough to play Kooyonga a few times recently but Id prefer the Lady.

Its a huge challenge with sandhills on either side of most fairways they form natural bunkers, can get ugly...greens are beautiful and scenery spectacular...it the wind isnt blowing you can shoot a reasonable score, if the wind is up then good luck, you need a good punch shot....quite regularly when playing into the wind there Ive taken a 3 iron from 100m when I would usually take a wedge, just to keep the ball low and out of the wind!!!

I played at Mt Compass about 4 years ago and vowed never to go back until I hear its better....When I played there the greens were in a disgraceful state, brown rough patches all over them....

its a nice layout with potential but prefer the Lady, McCracken and Wirrina in front of it...

Mind you the Par 3 12th is one of the best par 3's in the state

Mt Compass, I hope this is the course. played it a few years ago and the first hole you hit straight up a WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it took me a while to recover from the walk up on the first hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your confused MT, was it Mt Lofty? they have Heartbreak Hill on the first hole...Par 4 220m straight up hill...Mt Compas first hole is slightly down hill dogleg to the left about 320m

Mt.Compass circa 2000 was the best course I had played,up until going around Lady Bay and Kooyonga in more recent times.Drove about 190 odd right into the face of one of those Pot bunkers at Lady Bay,the ball plugged 80% in the sand waist high on the vertical face.Doh.The wind was horrible,absolutely horrible,and that was on a calm day.

Kooyonga last year (before the drought took a toll) was in fantastic nic.Best course,layout wise,I think I have been around.Thrilling Par 3's and endless Par 5's.The first is a killer.

A course that I go around on a regular basis,North Haven (can get 9 in after work during Daylight savings) is getting better,Regency is always packed to the rafters,The Pat is the same,North Adelaide too costly and busy.

For a great day,go to Victor Harbour.Nice course,nice drive,make a day of it,in fact,stay the night and throw the rods in and go round to the Bluff and pull up a couple of Squid to bring home.

Have you played the Haven recently Booney? I reakon the course is getting worse, and I will only play there now as a last resort ... It's good for closeness to home and the Saily for a couple of quiet ones after, but thats about it now.

Have played the Pat the last 3 weekends, and unfortunately thats getting worse too, although it's understandable as they are actually making changes to the course and it should be awesome once complete ... But 1 temporary green annoys me let alone 4 of the buggers!!

Well, back now guys. Took a little longer getting down there than I anticipated. Trains - roadworks - slow bastards on the roads. Then again, had to take the missus to work from Modbury to Brompton, hen Brompton to Magill to pick my mate up, then down to Lady Bay.



The course seemed "not as green" as I imagined but that is probably due to the time of year.

Greens = excellent. They played very true and once I got the speed, it was a lot easier. Some great "shapes" there, and weird pin placements made for some good approaches.


I haven't played much golf this year, very little in fact so it was good to get back out there.



My shining moment was on the 13th I think. Is that the first hole of the "shared green" ?

A fly went in front of my face just as I was hitting and I topped the ball 2 metres. We agreed I could hit again so I did.

If you know the hole - you can't see the green - just a pole in the distance which is quite tall. My mate who has played it a few times said the pole was in line with where the fairway went right.... but I thought it was further than it was!

I smacked the ball dead straight to the right.

As we were walking down, a guy on a bike came up to us. I thought "Hmm, we've paid, and he doesn't have any food so he's not a lunch cart".

He said "Just so you don't spend ages looking for your ball, it's 3 foot from the hole"

I wasn't sure if it was mine because Anthony hit a nice drive too - but he was in a bunker 50m short.

It was mine! I think the hole is about 278m or something. And my ball even plugged on the green!

Unfortunately I missed the Eagle chance - cut the edge of the cup, but tapped in for a birdie.

I wasn't driving to good before that, really got it right after then. The hole after, 14th... I ripped it DEAD straight and the ball ended up about 5 foot from the front of the green (over the creek there, where there's two bridges). Two favourite holes so far!

I wish there was more of a breeze - I was sweating like a jew at a German BBQ. Couldn't wait to get to the 19th for a beer and see the end of the cricket (saw the last 3 wickets).


Overall - very very nice course. Better out of winter/cooler month I would think with the green of the fairways. Look forward to playing there again! It's a hard course to play for the first time as the fairways are incredibly hard to pick unless you've walked from the other end to see where to land it. I found myself wondering where I was supposed to aim!

Oh and for the record - I got 55 on the first nine I don't know what I got on the second nine but it was better than the first. I would say I broke 100 or there abouts. Will have to check. As I said - ain't played for ages - and first time out with my new driver!

I once drove about 30 metres right and short of the green and I was buried in all the spinifex....I took a wild swing with the sand iron just to get it moving roughly towards the hole...it bounced and inch over the bunker rolled down the green and into the hole!!!!...cant say it was a good shot but a good fluke!!

the fairways are neve very green, being a links course it gets exposed to the full weather and sea salt etc, they are a brownish green all year round but they still play well which is the main thing

Yup. It was probably in line with the right edge of the green, 5 or so foot short. Cleared the "water" by good 15 metres.

Last played at North Haven in about August,so been a few months CP.Im off for 3 weeks over Xmas,might have to make an effort to get out there at some stage.

Dutchy : Description of the 14th ....

We have now reached a contrasting part of the course in a valley protected by hills
to the east and west. The coastline is no longer visible and there is a feeling of
seclusion.

The long drivers here will need to be very accurate as the fairway is narrowed about
230 metres from the back tee by a lake on the right fed from Salt Creek, which
continues to wind down and across the fairway. A bunker on the left, a little closer to
the tee, can push the player of average length to the right making his shot in rather
more interesting over the lake, an old tree and bunker in front of the green.
The green is wide and the demands of the approach shot can be increased greatly
as the pin is moved further to the right.
A bunker behind makes club selection very important.

South Course mate (lol thats the fully fledged one yeah?) ... Haven't played the Par 3/4 course for a few years but I hear it's in good nick.
