You do realise your speed is reliant of the quality of the copper from the exchange to your house? Changing providers doesn't change your copper.

Most people don't realise that ISP have "profiles" which can be changed to give you increase speeds. Bigpond doesn't support this.

somewhere I logged onto a speed tester thingy...?

Telstra/bigpond wins.

I just want highest speed broadband my friend with no complications. ;)

fair enough. I sacrificed some 'speed' for cheaper service and the ability to dodge Telstra at any given opportunity. (Yes, yes, I know, I do have Foxtel!)

Its funny when telstra try and get u back as a customer. You have foxtel but you dont pay your bill through us!!!! and we will give u ADSL 2.That would be nice telstra but its not in my area yet oh yes its not .
Plus they have also tried u owe telstra for line rentals I suggest they ask my provider doesn't go down well either

Sorry to be pedantic but only partly true ...

Yes, the quality of copper is important, but so is what equipment is in the DSLAM, Exchange or anything else along the way, how many other users are on the same run, etc, etc.

You can request, either explicitly or implicitly, to have an alternate path (copper) for some part of the run back to the exchange changed if you're lucky enough, so it definitely is possible. This can make a dramatic effect on speed or access to a broadband service.

This is all beyond the scope of this thread though! :D

OK, back on track ... anyone want to claim the $10,000 yet?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I'll claim it but under the criteria you set, I'm not worthy.

Can't even get Adam if you live in the Brighton exchange area without waiting 2 months.
