The Illawarra Hawks have dropped some big news announcing the signing of import JaVale McGee to a one-year deal. The 7'0" centre played 16 years in the NBA where he won three championships with the Golden State Warriors and LA Lakers and was a member of the USA's gold medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics. He played last season in Puerto Rico.

Also the Brisbane Bullets have signed import Javon Freeman-Liberty to a one-year deal. He's a 6'3" SG who has previously played in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors and played in Turkey and the G-League last season.

The FIBA Asia Cup starts tomorrow in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and all of Australia's and New Zealand's games will be live on ESPN & Kayo. The Boomers play their opening game on Wednesday August 6 against Korea at 5:30pm, the Tall Blacks first game is tomorrow at 5:30pm against Iraq.

A number of signings have been announced the big one is Jack McVeigh returning to the NBL and signing with the Cairns Taipans to a 2 year deal after playing for the Houston Rockets last season.

The SE Melbourne Phoenix have signed import Hunter Maldonado to a one-year deal. He's a 6'6" guard that played in Germany last season.

The Tasmania JackJumpers have signed import Tyger Campbell to a one-year deal. He's a 5'11" PG who also played in Germany last season.

Also Melbourne United have signed Nicolas Tata as a replacement player. He's a 6'10" PF and just played for Nunawading in the NBL1 South.

The NBL have announced Aussie big Akoldah Gak has signed with the Washington Wizards to an Exhibit 10 contract. He played for the Cairns Taipans and Mexico City in the G-League last season.

Also Melbourne United have signed import Jesse Edwards to a one-year deal. The 7'0" Dutch centre played a couple of games with the Minnesota Timberwolves and in the G-League last season.

The Cairns Taipans have announced a number of signings to complete their roster firstly import Admiral Schofield to a one-year deal. He's a 6'5" SF who played four years in the NBA with Washignton & Orlando and played in France last season. The signing of import Ashton Hagans to a one-year deal, he's a 6'3" PG who has previously played in the NBA with Minnesota & Portland and played in China last season. And third import Marcus Lee to a one-year deal who played for Melbourne United and in Poland last season.

Aside from the three imports the Taipans also announced the signings of two local players Reyne Smith on a 2 year deal, he's a 6'2" SG who just finished playing his college ball at Louisville and is currently playing for the Boomers at the Asia Cup and finally the signing of South Sudanese-Aussie Mawot Mag to a 2 year deal. He's a 6'7" SF who just finished playing his college ball at Brigham Young.
