Ian wrote:why don't you de rust it?
wire brush, steel wool, sand paper etc etc
you can also finish it off with a salt scrub
once you have got rid of all the rust, coat it in oil and season it (get it hot and smoking)

I normally do the bulk of it cold (helps if you can strip all the fat 1st) and do the salt scrub (with a little oil) hot, then clean it of before seasoning with fresh oilscottroo wrote:will give it a crack, should i scrub it when its hot or cold?

It's grill all the way here...if you wan't to cook anything more exotic than a wiener or frozen hamburger (and mostly, they don't) then they use a foil pan.
Anyway...back to the action.

There is something I had forgotten about Canada. Same thing when visiting the relatives over the east of the country/ They only have grill plates, and a barbecue consists of hot dogs & hamburgers. I should have warned you!

Hopefully it won't be too cold for a barbie when you're over here later in the year Les
