Yeah I’m with ya but sometimes it’s far easier and cheaper to give them what they want just to keep them

Yep, this or calling in sick via text is just crap
It's the way of the world now mate, it doesn't really bother me as I don't have to listen to them put on their sick voice nor do I have to answer their call if I'm out for dinner or having a few quiet ones at home. Same as in the morning, they won't wake anyone else up with a call.

He is "casual".
It's an epidemic atm that doesn't fluctuate between age or gender.
A casual last week had two days off and then came to see if he could leave early on the day he returned as he still wasn't feeling great, he proceeded to tell me the viscosity of his stools from the previous day when I interrupted him and told him to just go and take the rest of the week off.
Did you tell him to get his $hit together?
I had one lazy **** work for me about 10 years ago
His father worked for the company so he thought he was bullet proof
Used to turn his puter off at 4.50pm so he could get a flying start out the door so I got everyone to give him work at 4.51 to be done today.
Was 2 hours late one morning because the electricity went off and his alarm clock reset.... Yeah mate - you 20+ year olds use them.
I asked his father whether he came in with him this morning "no - he didn't come home last night"
Always taking sickies on Tuesday - come down Tuesday
Always sent texts even though he was required to call
He had one Tuesday off because he was on his deathbed - came in on Wednesday with a new haircut - not the sharpest tool in the shed
He eventually got the bullet and was unemployed because word had got around in a small close industry.
Eventually his father moved companies and junior got another job as part of the deal

I guess it can depend on the work environment and what needs to be organised by when, most of the time at my work people call in sick first thing in the morning, which doesn't really disrupt work apart from them not being here.
I just think it is basic respect and says a bit about the character of the person.

It's very disruptive here, I have to re-arrange the roster of those that are at work which means stopping any training to man roles according to the skill sets that I have available and then organise replacements from the late shift to come in early or for the early shift to stay back late, this incurs a meal break allowance on top of their overtime rates.
I guess the SMS sort of safeguards themselves as proof that they told me, one bloke messaged me at 1:30am to tell me he won't be in at 10am, I messaged him the following Sunday morning at 3am to see if he wanted to start early on the Wednesday, he now waits til 5am to let me know of his pending absence.
I think I'm a caller though, I haven't had a sickie since my dad died over 11 years ago and organise all of my appointments around my working hours, I work a lot more hours than I get paid for so work is quite flexible, infact my boss pushes me out the door on Friday's at 2pm.

Isn't that part of new rules in place?
Seems a bit ridiculous....
