Sounds like a convo I had yesterday with a bloke from our factory.
Him "Don't mind the smell of vegemite, it's all in my hair"
Me "A gel replacement?"
"Na, when I put my headphones down at lunch someone smeared vegemite over the ear protectors, I don't know who it could've been but I only annoyed 3 people today so I've narrowed it down".

The $500 comes in, the $900 goes OUT. Peanut.

Yep, that's what I meant. Hardly going to break the bank but it's exposing a flawed system pretty clearly to me.

Getting yet another email and phone call about my damn security clearance, which I have to do for apparently I need to provide more information! More information?? I've already given them all there is to know about me, my family, my overseas holidays and everything else in between!

I consider myself lucky though, our clearances are to be completed online in our own time and being young I'm lucky enough to be computer literate, the older blokes at work who have hardly used a computer in their lifetime have had so much trouble with their clearances because they just don't know what the hell to do. I and other younger guys who have done or are doing their clearance try to explain to them how to go about it but they don't understand it. (Eg. We have to use Firefox instead of internet explorer because it continuely crashes while you're trying to complete your clearance, the older blokes have NFI what Firefox is). A few blokes have just refused to do it because it's too much of a headf**k.

Yeah mate. Five of the older Boilermakers in my work group refuse to do it, three others had to get their wives to help them do it and are still having trouble with it.

Mates who send you emails saying 'I wish we'd met now instead of back then [five years ago], I am way better looking now and more mature.'

1. Obviously you're HEAPS mature to be saying something like that.
2. It wouldn't have made a difference anyway, you tool - I was with Mr McSpaz back then and I'm still with him.
3. You're married. I hope your wife reads her emails.
4. Since the last time I saw you, you have been convicted for eight counts of forgery. That's not very mature.
5. Goodbye.
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.

One thing that annoys me slightly is people waiting for coffee to be served to them, waiting on the foot path and blocking pedestrians. Happens a bit at the coffee shop on corner of Grenfell and King William St.

I wonder if "journo" Alison Stephenson feels a sense of satisfaction when such insightful and news-worthy articles such as this one are published.
