And geez the entire league must be a joke if when you are short ONE week you are labeled a joke, guess the 15 a side idea isn't so good afterall.... Seeing as 2 of the 3 games Sunday were 13 a side and onkas in reality had 14, maybe we should kick all those teams out and you could just play with yourself, ....get the feeling his happens already though

I think you'd find that the 7's team is essentially a reserves side with 3 state league players running around to help teach these other players.
Most weeks our 7's side would've featured 3 senior players & 5-6 reserves.

We had 2 guys in there 40s and 3 players who haven't played state league all year, so that 7s game was a fair fight....

Looking forward to the last minor round game now that's for sure....na Fianna are not in the same league as onkas or WI and I dont expect them to challenge in finals....i still consider our season a success, we have unearthed some quality players that will see us continue to develop in the coming seasons...I believe we will challenge na Fianna in the last round and take out div 2 again

You've got to be in the finals to win it, a quick lesson for ya mate...
And i'd be super proud to finish 5th again, the Div 2 cup is more irrelevant than 7's. Until they put in an actual Div 2 comp, and then unlike you, we'd be in the top league with Onka's & Western Ireland...

As for the 15 a side rule, put it on the back burner for another season, many clubs struggling, onkas played a man down, they still did it easy but the comp is not back to those days yet

Don't think you have that in the bag just yet mate. although irrelevant to some the other 3 teams would love to knock off flinders for that cup. port have had their patches but keep on improving, and mitcham and irish who have played well in games but struggled for numbers. so im sure either of those 3 teams would love to make sure flinders get nothing

GAELIC 7s GRAND FINAL

It was a thrilling installment of this years GF which as mentioned was a rematch of last years overtime thriller. The first half saw some electric Gaelic football with St. Brendans looking the better side and holding a small lead despite having scored less goals to the half. The Irish trio were getting their shots from good shooting areas and taking their oppurtunities whilst their defence was hard to pierce with all 7 players contributing to being in a winning position at half time.
In the second half Onkas seemed to come out with better structure and were able to control the defensive corridor pushing the Saints shot takers out further and wider. The 9 man Onkas were able to make some key rotations and seemed a little fresher than the 7 man Saints. Ayshy, The Snoop dog O,Hara and Tyson all worked very hard to block the access routes to easy scores and were able to transfer play quickly through chains of handball and a precise kick to Wade and Gabe. 7 minutes in with a slender lead Irish James from the Saints did his knee and the Saints were forced to play the game out with just 6 men. Despite the numerical disadvantage the boys didnt quit but Onkas were able to sneak a few easy scores and create a gap that St. B would not close. Onkas would run out 7 point winners despite some late threatening thrusts from the brave Saints. All in all it was an excellent game of Gaelic Football played in great spirits and an intencity often not seen in State League.

- Well done to the 2 refs who controlled the GF in paticular Tommy G who did a good job.
- A big Thanks to Steve for all his work throughout the 13 weeks in setting up, trainer and being there from open to close every Wednesday night
- Thanks to all the refs throughout the season and special mention to Gav and JFlo for their fill in jobs when refs were injured
- Good on the Dingoes for their participation and coming down last night to be part of the GF action
- To all 11 teams we thank you for your participation in the year. The entire comp was played in the right spirit and we were able to achieve all the goals we set out to achieve before commencement.

QUICK REMINDERS...

Sunday at 3.45pm is Port v Flinders which is the rescheduled game. This is now the first game of the day and therefore should have match officials provided for it by the Western Ireland Womens team who are responsible for the running of St. Marys this Sunday.

THE MENS TEAM OF THE YEAR will be selected at 2 meetings during the final minor round.
The first is at 9.15pm on Friday Feb 17th after the conclusion of the second mens game for the evening. The second is at 5.30pm on Sunday Feb 19th between the 2 mens games.
Will all teams please send a competant representative to one of the 2 meetings to ensure you have input into the team of the year and that your club is accurately represented within the team by suitable cantidates. Ideally whom ever you send they should have seen all or almost all of your games. Coaches, Captains, Managers or Referees are all suitable to sit in on selection.
The team is announced on Presentation night on Friday March 2nd.

A gallant effort from the plucky Taints on Wednesday night against the highly rated Onkas (and Doeckes) outfit, we had the minimum of 7 players due to the season ending injuries to the 2 x PegLeg-oraros, and our new goalie not playing either. We played some great 7s footy and had the lead and momentum at half time, but we were cruelly finished as soon as Irish Jim went down with a knee injury, leaving us to discover the joy of (playing with) six.

However the crocked Irish Jim then showed a great deal of intestinal fortitude to lead a group of Taints (including your narrator) to the Warradale Pokie lounge, for a herculean amount of beers, chips, and free monte carlos before we got turfed out at about 2:30am.

Re: the changed game between Port and Flinders - as far as i can recall its actually up to the team(s) who initiated the change to supply match officials for their own rescheduled game.

All whilst investing 1 or 2 $ in a pokie syndicate after watching their free PPV. We also ran the gauntlet on their coffee machine. We may have to incorporate the warradale into our end of season pokie/excessive coffee and biscuit crawl

I dont like pokies in the slightest, but i fear im suffering from a debilitating Pokie Room addiction... constantly thinking about the rush of sticking the mit in the cookie jar and rummaging around for as many monte carlos as possible whilst swilling a free coffee before i get turfed out for not even understanding how pokie machines work!

Any speculation on team of the year members? From the Taints i reckon Ben Newberry will make his first TOY appearance, as well as the usual's like Backy and Jordy Pegleg. Not many of our players have played the full season so not sure who else would sneak in.

If there was a best first year player award, id be nominating Brett Watkinson from the Taints. When not learning his Gaelic trade Brett can be seen 6:30pm weeknights on channel 10 playing "Zeke" on Neighbours...

So having spoke to Port they are supplying officials for the first game but are unable to supply for the game following their game. Im not sure of the rules in place as too whos responsibilitie this becomes but i would assume WI girls will be there to do that game as originally programmed if no-one from the 3.45 game is able to stick around and be officials.

CT in regards TOY i reckon you were spot on and you have modestly forgot to include the likely possibility of "The Polish Bear" going back to back in TOY selection. Of course we will have to somehow devide 21 spots into 8 teams whilst incorporating the Top 10 vote getters. Never any easy challenge

Im not gonna kick a team when they are down but going back over this thread i did see Flinders say they would win the Div 2 flag. Based on what i saw today they will need to improve by at least 31 points next time they play Port to be any chance and Irish Aust have also steadily improved as the year has gone by, they would fancy themselves a chance at the....whatever you call it Cup. Im very much looking forward to a fired up and re-energized Flinders unit next week to find some form before the Div 2 finals. I think Port will be quietly confident that they have the personell and the structure to potentially win their first piece of silverware albeit not the richest prize in Gaelic football.

A real game of Gaelic football was on display at Gaelic park today. A tough hard pressure filled game that didnt have blokes queing up on a 6 yard line to boot the ball into the net. Every score was earnt and the game remained tight and tough for the full 50 minutes. Both teams should be happy with the way they attacked the ball and the skill errors were often based on the fact that there were 30 players on the field all playing in contests within the contest.
I read somewhere earlier that the Na Fianna Gaelic football CLUB was not in the league of Western Ireland and this offended and angered me a great deal. I think both the Finns and the Goats are both in the same league and play very good Gaelic football and are well organised and coached. Whilst we got the better of the Goats today we are under no illusions that it is a fine line between winning and losing when 2 qualitie clubs are involved. Both teams are genuine chances of being crowned Hannigan Cup champions.

Wouldn't take too much from our result on the weekend. We did port a favor by assisting in their rescheduling and my bucks show and the cricket really took a toll on our numbers. No excuses though port can only play against the side put before them. Should have a better side this week I'd imagine

I must admit Neville Bartoss looked better after chopper shot him than you did on sunday arvo mate. Your mediterranian man tan was a ghostly shade of white with some difinite greeness around the gills I also found it funny that instead of saying hello, you said "ORRRHHHHHH"

Dont forget all teams should be sending a club rep to one of the 2 team of the year selection meetings which are scheduled around the times of the mens games this weekend.
