Mentioned he played some Gaelic footy in the local SA competition.
How does someone of a small stature like Mark's compete in Gaelic footy?
Might pop out and have a look this week.

It would have been the Church of Matt Doecke! Some say the Beatles are bigger than god. Not in the Gaelic scene there MATTHEW DOECKE is bigger than all religion!

Any results out there? A very wasteful Taints accounted for Port on Friday night, and I believe Na Fianna smashed Mitcham. How did the first instalment of Flinders vs Western Ireland go?

Na Fianna 8-6 (30) defeated Mitcham 1-13 (16) (give or take a point here or there).

Not sure about the others, but i'd be keen to see the results.

goats beat flinders by 4 points. flinders were good. best side the have had post xmas in years. not sure what the loss means to them. they have 4 or 5 very handy irish lads. Goats i thought were in control of the game besides a few goal keeping blunders. thought Sam did a great job as ref. good to see first year refs not over umpiring. Good signs for both sides pushing towards the finals.

thinks onkas won easy against the irish

Was a very solid contest I agree, I think we missed some blatant chances in fornt of goal that would have meant we would have been alot closer near the end.....but in the end Western Irland took there chances and run the ball as good as any in the game....

But yes the Western Ireland keeper was very giving 2 kick ins in a row......

Would have to disagree with the ref and question why that ref was given a game with 2 physical teams so early on in his ref development...the game did not flow from a Flinders point of view....but the ref was not the reason we lost...

i have to wonder in general why the ref was given this game by the committee after his thoughts about flinders are widely known by the committee?

but he was not the reason we lost but he was not very good

Good to see the state government has come thru for gaelic football in this state & has retained the Adelaide Cup public holiday to March. I think the day should be now known as the day after Hannigan cup day

 i've had enough of this.... This is something that was minuted very incorrectly & has been blown completely out of proportion.... The person in question never used that terminoligy & did not bring up the point as a point of discussion.
To question the values of one of a significant contributors to the game of gaelic football in this state is not on.

I will agree with the other FON & say that new referees should be eased into the game with the easier fixtures. Although, I understand that with the scheduling that this can't be achieved all the time. We have also had this referee when we played the Taints (another tight fixture) & his performance was fine.

it was pretty clear what was said in the circulated e-mail, you cannot mis-interpret black and white text sent to the club it is concerning...

and flinders have always been questioned about how much we put in and now we step up and ave referees, more people on the committee and there are still issues from many refs and clubs.... that is something i have had enough of, the prejudice towards flinders, so i will question his values

Must be a contender for the biggest display of :-({|= and :(( that has ever been posted on this site!!!

Its been great getting the Flinders boys of James, Benji, and Jarrod on the committee, and good to see Flinders get their first umpire. But IMHO paranoid whinging like this just undermines the good work done by these blokes!

i doubt it undermines because they boys mentioned have been around long enough and seen and heard enough to make up their own minds, I should know...

i dont think its whinging i'm just telling it how it is, and having said referee is just adding another chapter to this

2011 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - ST MARY'S PARK CLUBROOMS, SUNDAY FEBRUARY 20 @ 1:30PM

The call is now out for 2011/2012 committee nominations and proposals for state bye-laws. Clubs can nominate candidates for positions on the committee, while clubs and the state committee can submit motions. Both nominations and motions must be submitted via email to the state committee secretary (secretary@gaelicfootballsa.com.au) by Monday February 7.

COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS - There are a number of officially elected positions that are voted for at the AGM. These are:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Assistant Secretary
Treasurer
Registrar
Public Relations (Website Administrator)

Plus, there are also a number of general committee positions available. Once elected to a general committee position, roles relating to the many tasks of running the association are assigned. These roles include:

Events coordinator
Bar coordinator
Underage Development Coordinator
Sponsorship and grants coordinator
Referees coordinator
Coaches coordinator
Marketing coordinator

There are many and varied ways to contribute to the running of our competition and everyone can find a role that suits them best. The job descriptions for these roles are available here. Clubs are reminded that following last year's AGM, every team must nominate at least one member of the 2011/12 committee. By doing this the responsibility of running the competition is shared equally among the clubs and all clubs have a say in decision making. Teams who have been in the competition less than one year are exempt (i.e. Mitcham must now nominate, Port Districts and Flinders women do not have to although it is still recommended).

MOTIONS - Motions submitted at the AGM and voted for by a majority of voting members present, are then taken to the Australasian Secretary for approval. Once approved the motion becomes a state bye-law i.e. a permanent competition rule. This is the best opportunity to make permanent change to the way our association is run and should be considered carefully before doing so. Before writing a motion, it would be a good idea to look at the existing bye-laws under GFHASA Documents and the GFHA Rule Books on the GFHASA website to ensure that the wording is correct and that it is not contrary to an existing Australasian Rules in the Policies section on the http://www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au website. If you have any questions about either nominating for a committee position or submitting a motion, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Regards

GFHASA

Have to offer some support to the referee of the FON vs. WI game. I watched this game as a neutral spectator and I did not see any intentional bias against Flinders from the referee, so to suggest that this is the case is very harsh and totally uncalled for in my opinion. He might have missed a few fouls, but he was fair enough to both sides and did well in my opinion. WI deserved to win the game.

From what I saw of the following game, the Flinders referee had a good game also.
