If it wasn't embarrassing enough getting thrashed in this test and the series - we cant even organise a proper closing presentation.

Meanwhile, host broadcaster Channel Nine compounded the sense of anticlimax by cutting short their broadcast from the SCG midway through England's celebrations to show a repeat of Gilligan's Island.

 I shouldn't laugh because seriously that is just appalling .. Honestly, WTF?!?!

Understand we're in a trough in terms of our cricketing ability, but SURELY proper presentations, tributes and farewells can be arranged and afforded.

Just incredible!!

We pride ourselves on being professional and part of that is to be a gracious host and loser where applicable and regardless of what other countries may do. However the ACB and Channel 9 shoudl be ashamed of themselves re the presentation today. Really poor that Cook wasn't presented with his medal - didn't the ACB have some over paid event coordinator overseeing it and assisting Tubby with the presentation?

I didn't even know there was a Compton/Miller medal for best player.....how important is it really?
I also don't really recall there being too many big celebrations being televised when Australia won the Ashes over in Pomgolia.

Just a bit of perspective needed I reckon.

Reminiscent of Little Johnnie Howards face-like-a-smacked-bum when he presented the WC trophy to the England Rugby Union team...

Is there something symbolic in that?

Punter plays the Skipper.
Pup is Gilligan.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful tour
That started from a tropic port
And finished in Sydney.

The mate was a well dressed man,
The skipper had been on many a tour.
Eleven players set sail that day
For a five test tour, a five test tour.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Hmm, not the brightest spark around, are you? Referrals been around as long as you can remember too? The umpire gave it out, so "as long as you can remember" ago, Bell would be out. The whole point of the referral system wasn't to stop the ones that looked doubtful, the point was to stop the obvious mistakes. Was that an obvious mistake?

Ah, why bother? Like beating your head against a brick wall sometimes.

Exactly. That's the whole argument here.

Do we know for sure that was the communication between the umpires though ?

I believe that channel 9 have access to the radio communications between the umpires. The commentators were certainly relating the conversation back accurately apparently. Before the decision was overturned they said the central umpire was saying that he would overturn it despite no concrete evidence either way.

all I am saying is that the third umpire obviuously had doubt about the dismissal. With the evidence available at the time there was no concrete evidence that he nicked it and benefit of the doubt went to the batsmen. I admit to not seeing the incident live but with no concrete evidence available to say it was out, what was the third umpire meant to do. Guess???

Channel Nein's Isle

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale
Of a team that was once a hit
They all starred in our Summer Sport
But now they’re in the 5hit

The mate was a mighty shagging man
The skipper’s bat was sure
So many passengers set sail this year
That the Poms enjoyed the tour, the Poms enjoyed the tour.

The newsmen started getting rough
The selectors all tosspots
Even for the courage of a very few
The Ashes they were lost, the Ashes they were lost.

The team ran aground and was bogged down on our Boxing Day
Run out again
The skipper’s poo
Bowl like millionaires – we’re in strife
The former stars!
The selectors not again!
Hear the Army all Day!

So this is the tale of the team ranked five
They’re here for a long long time
We’ll keep Punter till he’s forty five
It’s an uphill climb

There’s no mates at the Skipper’s do
Even though he tries his best
To make the others accountable,
When they’ve just lost a test.

No runs, no scalps no series win
Not a single victory
He’s not Robinson Crusoe
Just ask crying Kimmy

So join us here next year my friends
You’d better bring the Frangers
As we bend over and get shagged
By the Touring Bangers.

regards,

REB

I guess it's just as bad as their stupid article referring to 'Paul' McGrath.
Four years ago, when Australia wrapped up a 5-0 series win over England, the presentation ceremony was far more extravagant, with individual tributes to Shane Warne, Paul McGrath and Justin Langer, who were retiring at the end of the game.

Who would that be again?
