More of the people that actually matter in cricket actually believe T20 is cricket, just like ODIs and Tests. Because these views don't conform with people who are not as readily accepting of this change does not mean he will never be taken seriously as a cricketer. Quite the opposite - just like CA take Dave Warner seriously, they will take Tait seriously if he plays a good brand of cricket in the short formats of the game.

Say what you like smac but 20/20 will never ever hold the same prestige as Test cricket. Like it or not but cricketers will always be judged on their Test careers and those who have failed at that level will always be seen as inferior to those who have been successful. Tait can make all the money he likes playing in glorified domestic competitions like the IPL but he will never be recognised as anything but someone who could have been a good player. Just ask Nathan Bracken who is one of the best ODI bowlers in the world. How many people rate him as a cricketer and how many people will remember what he has done? At least he keeps trying to reach the ultimate level and doesn't just give up cos it's too hard. He would give up everything he has ever done in cricket to get another chance at Test cricket i reckon.

Not sure thats what REB would claim to be, or indeed the world he lives in.

Perhaps if you could suggest he expects " Over paid sooks who should pull their finger out their arse and try their best regardless of how bloody hard it might be " then sure, thats REB.

Predictable reply...

Pointless comment...

Which was just as predictable. Pushy has made missing the point an art form.

I wasn't making a judgement, I am passing on what I have seen from CA, SACA, WACA, CV and others, as well as the players themselves. Test cricket is not the be all and end all that it once was. Fight it as long as you like but I'm sure those people will have more impact on cricketers than this forum.

I think if he'd chosen to specialise in test and shield cricket we'd be saying "yes, with his injury history it's a good idea that he cut out the limited overs hit & giggle and focus on real cricket".
In between signatures .....

The best cricketers play Test cricket. It is the pinnacle of the sport and always will be.

Business wise it might be better for Tait to take up the money making opportunities that the limited form of the game can bring. Good for him, we all need to make a living and he's doing a lot better than many of us! He just won't get the respect as a cricketer that many thought he was destined for.

It is a pity and a problem cricket some how has to deal with that the ultimate form of the game is not as commercially attractive to the masses that the hit and giggle form is.

Tait has a CA contract now, replacing Symonds.

I wonder if now that he does have a CA contract Tait will "back down" from his alleged decision to quit Shield cricket?

It will certainly help the Redbacks contract list with Tait getting a CA contract. Hopefully will give us some money to play with so we can land a big fish, but I guess we'll see. From what Mark Sorrell was saying in the 'Tiser this morning, they're just gonna start Taity in the limited over stuff with a view to maybe progressing to Shield cricket after Christmas or something. If his body allows!
