Im of the opinion that in test cricket, you should always select your best keeper and that batting ability should be secondary.

I'm glad i'm not on my own. I would still make the exception for Gilchrist though but he was just a freak. He could have played purely as a batsman as he proved when he took on the number 3 role in India when Ponting was out injured.

Gilly was an opening batsman for NSW before going to WA so he could always bat

Could we just stop and contemplate that for a moment. Does that mean we do not have one wicketkeeper playing cricket at any level in Australia who was capable of conceeding less than 31 byes in 2nd Test? Frightening thought if it is true.
Not surprising the comment came from a New South Welshman, they think Australia ends at the New South Wales borders.

And if they miss a stumping, catch ir run out in which the batsman makes an extra 100, where does that rate?
It has been well documented over the years that the wicketkeeper is the barometer for the overall standard of fielding.

England would be laughing at Australia, We have a bowler (johnsone) capable of tearing batting lists apart, capable of seriously hurting people, capable of bowling 150kmh.......but why isnt he doing this. Maybe all his personall shi_ is getting to much for him. And Johnsone was always going to take over from Gilly.....but now there is someone better than him as a keeper Manou. If they are willing to carry Hussey for som many Test matches now with out him scoring a decent score for so long, well maybe its time to bring Manou in full time. He is young, Gun and maybe he is the kinda bloke the Aussies need.

Bad keepers who bat well are match winners [and match losers thru thier keeping]
In other words HADDIN can win a game but MANOU can only do a job
Glilly and Hadds can win games batting at 7
Manou does not fit that criteria [yet]
Put it in another way
If I was an AU bowler I would prefer seeing MANOU behing the stumps
If I was an EG bowler Id rather bowl at MANOU
There are arguments for and against in the Haddin /Manou debate
But as long as HADDIN makes runs he is still the better selection
And thats why the selectors will continue to pick him first

Johnsone (not spelt right) taking over from Gilchrist so now hes a keeper as well, but know u mnade a mistake and i agree that I* would give Manou a chance
