I remember Haddin backing away from Tait a couple of years back at AO...out of fear...

These low scoring One Dayers are amazing, so gripping and unpredictable.

No pain, no gain against Tait. ;)

Bracken will probably get MOTM if Australia win.

Well, whatever pitfalls NZ have, they make it up through competitiveness. If Taylor gets MOTM, you wonder what a bowler has to do to get one.

tough one for spelly here but has Australia ever won a one dayer or a test for that matter with Shaun Tait in the side ? Aside from the last world cup?

apart from an exciting finish that could b one of the worst cricket matches ever. The way australia got themselves out was like watching amateurs. Only New Zealand could manage to almost stuff that one up only chasing 180 odd. Whats goin on with the WACA pitch, i know it was a slower ball, but that edge from taylor off hopes fell way short of Haddin.

Bayman, your comparison of Haddin with Greg Dyer re the Broom dismissal is spot on - it was my first thought on seeing the dismissal as well. He would have known he touched the stumps, and should have at least made the umpire aware of the possibility instead of celebrating the wicket like nothing was wrong.

Further to that, why can't the third umpire review the dismissal quickly while the batsman is walking off the ground and relay this information to the central umpire, thus allowing the decision to be reversed? Bad decisions such as McCullum's lbw are part of the game and even out over time, but this one is different i think.

Undisciplined batting has been our problem all summer. Far too much attention placed on an inexperienced bowling attack, and not enough focus on the real problem ... batting.

I can't believe we lost, but we were never going to win with that total.

220 would have been more of a challenge for the Kiwi's.

Not quite as simple as that. Our real problem is retirements/injury and poor team selection. The bowling failed in the tests and the batting has failed on the one dayers and we all know what wins both. Progressively poorer Cricket is the result of the three factors I mentioned above as confidence ebbs away. Once again I a wondering how we can select a teeball specialist to open when we have the Kat in career best form? This monumental blunder is a misguided attempt to create the next Adam Gilchrist. Poor old Warner know doesn't know whether he is coming or going. He should be going....back to the Blues with the Kat to come in.

i cant understand we cant score runs....we dont drop any of our batsmen when we cant buy any runs....but always messing around with the bowlers....they are always dropping least 1 bowler for another...how about they have a look at the batting order aswell

Most of them are so scared of failure, it causes them to fail, they should get out there and back themselves, that's why they are in the side in the first place.

heard ponting wants symonds in for the SA tour...he hasnt done anything on field to get back in the side...made no runs for QLD on the weekend...his batting form is poor...and when you have young guys like that hughes whos averaging about 90 with the bat he has to go

Going back to the Fleming era (maybe further, I dont know) the Kiwi's always seem to be one of the better teams in terms of preparation and application of tactics

Wouldn't surprise me to see Symonds in the SA tour side. He would be valuable just for his experience. The Aussies seem a bit flat at the moment and he'll certainly boost them in the field.

Daniel Vettori is living proof how important it is to blood young fella's, he is such a calm, level-headed cricketer now and still under 30. I used to think he was poo, now he is one of the most competent players going around, good on him for getting the winning runs last night, well deserved.
