Drop Cosgrove

Postby am Bays » Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:21 pm

Can anyone give me a plausible argument on why Cosgrove shouldn't be dropped?? When has he batted more than a session this year....FFS most talented batsman in the side and can't bat for more than 2 hrs FFS...

Christ the boy is as gifted technically as Clarke and Symonds if he got fit he could earn $1.5 Mill a year as opposed to $150 000 as a state player...

Will never earn that money though as he is a lazy F***

I can cop Adcock failing as he is no good but at least applies himself and is getting as much out of his ability as he can Cosgrove on the other hand is just one more Big Mac away from a heart attack
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The sad thing is hes possibly more overweight now than he was when he was given a suspension by the SACA a few years ago. Seeing that photo in the paper a few weeks ago doesn't actually inspire confidence!!

The SACA probably needs to send an even stronger message and suspend him indefinitely until he reaches an appropriate fitness level for a professional sportsman. If he cant attain that level, then so be it.

Agree with your assessment of Cosgrove but disagree with your assessment of Adcock. He does work very hard but he hasn't got the most out of his ability. The guy can seriously play and i just cannot understand why he can't convert his ability into success at first class level.

I would sit down Cosi and say there aint no SACA contract next season unless he is a certain weight by Sept AND maintains it....

Know where you are coming from Tassie....many said Rick Darling was similar, all the talent in the world but not prepared to do the hard work to ensure he coverts it into many Test caps....Andrew Hilditch had 1% of Darlings ability but guess who played more tests in the Baggy Green? (I bowled to Hilditch once when I was playing juniors at the Bay and he even showed respect to a snotty nosed 15yo trying to bowl Leggies while every other A grader put you out of the nets!)

COSSIE
Forgetting his 'waist' of talent lets look at the whole team

I have updated todays First innings VI V SA [hope its accurate]
Only the players in todays game listed

PLAYER......RUNS................AVERAGE

MANOU..... 407.................45.22
ELLIOTT....357..................27-46
GILLESPIE..348..................49-71
FERGUSON.330..................41.25
COSGROVE.291..................29.10
DEITZ.......191..................27.10
R HARRIS...180..................18.00
ADCOCK.....163.................14.81
CLEARY......054................18.00
ROFE.........031.................10.33
CHRISTIAN..001.................1.00

Looking at those stats and just on performance you would say Cossie would be the 3rd person dropped
If you take into consideration what TASSIE has posted he then becomes the first dropped

This top order have not made a p/cup 100 this season !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 tons this year

167 BOOF retired
190 + 105* MANOU the keeper
118* GILLESPIE the bowler

Is Cossie getting starts and getting out thru a lack of fitness causing FATigue ?
A 2nd innings failure could be FATal

Concentration and fitness issues aside that's bull5hit. Symonds is the most gifted cricketer of his generation and Clarke's footwork (except in his last dig LOL) is sublime. Both play all the shots in the book. Cosgrove is an out and out slogger IMO and nowhere near these two players technically.

While I agree that Cosgrove is good enough to win the baggy green, he'll never be a Symonds and Clarke even if he does get off his ar5e.

Not really rodney. I know his stats don't back up my assessment (yet) but have a look at the guy.

Explosive batsman
Handy Medium Pace bowler with a happy knack of breaking partnerships
Handy spinning option
The best fieldsman in world cricket bar none

Andrew Symonds now feels he belongs in Test cricket. He is fast becoming our most valuable cricketer. Others can do maybe one or two of the above but none can do all four.

Mark Cosgrove's 32 was vital on the green wicket.

"Those 30s are equivalent to 60s or 70s the way the wicket was playing," he said.
those were manou's words. you should give him a break i bet half you people on here are fatter than him

You'd expect Manou to go into bat for his team mate but you should also expect a top order batsman to be able to occupy the crease for longer than 2 hrs as Tassie has said. You should also expect a better average than 29 for such a talented batsman.

I'll think you'll find the issue here Joker is the lad is wasting (won't re-use mally's joke here) his talent. For the record, I'm nearly 20 years older but not as fat. Can't speak for anyone else on here though. 8)

Take a good look at him joker. He is obese and i'm not talking for an elite athlete. He is just plain obese. The guy is massively overweight and forget cricket for a moment he needs to lose weight for his health.

He has been given so many chances and there are so many people who have and are willing to help him yet he remains in very ordinary shape. Your assumption that half the people on the site are fatter than Cosgrove is most likely way off but even if it was correct i would be willing to lay a very large wager that none have been afforded the assitance that Cossie has had.

COSGROVE
Half the people on this website that are fatter than Mark are not staring
at a million dollar acb contract.
I guarentee at least 90% of all the fatsos that post here would be the right weight if they were gifted with a unique talent that Cossie has.

He weighs about 5 kilos less than me now
But at his age as an amatuer cricketer playing against guys like Booney + REB
a guy like me weighed 20 kilos less than he does.

Also forgetting about batting , if he was 15 kilos lighter he could be a better bowler.
He did a lot of bowling in u17/19 state games and could be a useful bowler in limited over games now.
He has the attributes to be an allROUNDer.

Lets hope he does not waist his career.

SYMONDS

Is without doubt the most talented allround cricketer Ive seen playing for Australia.
Lets draw a comparism
ROY = Right handed Gary Sobers.
Same heritage
Bat similar
bowl meduim pace
bowl spin
brilliant fieldsman

The difference is SOBERS did his craft consistently for about a decade
ROY has done it for about 12 months.

Cricketing wise I concede your point re Symonds but I was talking purey from a batting sense...

We could argue the toss all day who has the most talent but the giste of my arguement is that he has the talent to wear the baggy green and the yellow cap

The fact that he isn't being mentioned in selection talk ATM is a shame as their are opportunities opening up for young batsmen around teh country and he should be dominating doemstic cricket right now.

Anyone else appreciate the irony that he got out last ball before lunch...

I wonder if he lingered longer in th lunch room for an extra serve of ice cream knowing that he had an afternoon ahead of him sitting on his ar5e.

If I was coah I would have sent him on a lap of Albert Park lake to be followed by a 1 hr net...
