but it is broken, all the best players are leaving to country, everyones whinging about the points system, the league holds night games and nobody goes, this football party is boring cos we all keep the top 12 clubs in cotton wool, and the rest of the clubs are just the dudds on the scrap heap

Having 4 teams go up and 4 teams go down isn't the answer to any underlining issues that you think are present. The clubs in Division 1 are there because they deserve to be there.
Players are always going to go to the country as the country towns have less population and need to entice players out to their clubs, the only way to do this is with funds that are usually supplied by local farmers or business owners who have pride in their home town and want to see their club be successful.
The points system seems to be working and there seems to be minimal complaints about it. Clubs can climb the divisions, they can seek sponsorship to make themselves more attractive to prospective players, Kilburn, Portland and Golden Grove are 3 clubs that spring to mind as being on the right track.

Well id rather see a contender in PAC in div 1 right now instead of a phos camden pretender who only scraped in by the skin of their nut sack

Instead pac's tremendous efforts of last year are now washed away with no reward and the poor blokes gotta start again whilst phos spends another season pretending

If PAC is Prince Alfred Old Collegians you would think they'd be getting whipped considering they are currently 8th in division 2.

As it is Phos did enough to stay up last year and maybe due to loss of players, injury or poor form are struggling atm but if they do come good and win enough games to avoid bottom 2 again well then they deserve there spot in div 1, thats the way it is marbles

as we therefore jeopardise the excitement of the competition by denying contenders, and nursing pretenders. imagine the fearsomeness of Division 1 if every club was living on the knifes edge

The fourth team promoted ends up being a pretender anyway. And your system will result in constant yo-yo-ing, which is terrible for club stability.

so this 4 up and 4 down theory, if you finish 6th and only miss out of finals by game, you get relegated??? Bit rough

4 down would be 7th-10th going down. Not that i am supporting the opinion
Leave as it is in my opinion, not that it means much what we write on here. If you are not in the top 2 sides for the season and do not go up then back to the drawing board you go.

i know some people are for the 2 teams to go up are the minor premiers and the premiers. So you could go out in straight sets and still be rewarded with promotion. Ridiculous idea i think. Not good enough to make the GF from top spot, well bad luck

4 up/4 down - so every year 8 teams change divisions  A bit much really. Marbles, a better option could be 3 up/3 down so the losing Prelim team still gets to go up?

Turf Cricket have the Minor Premier and Premier go up which I've always thought was a bit odd, esp when the minor premier gets knocked out in the semi.
