Anyway, I wasn't slagging off the school but the decision to forfeit

The games was almost scary with respect to the standard with some absolutely brilliant passages of play through the ground from both sides

And Norwood Oval  Obviously has had the roof shut for the past month - no mud at all although there must be some funny patches of grass because some of the ways the bounced were just incredible

and if you had played Rostrevor , SHC or st peters it would have been the same as all schools and planned and agreed to do so.

Not so

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Well, we played Pembroke last Saturday and there was some surprise when we heard SM had forfeited

Anyway - doesn't matter - Trader's probably right anyway

Its always impressed me how rugby league players can play a grueling State of Origin match mid week and still stump up both Saturdays (nothing much else impresses me about the game)

PAC 10.10
St Michaels 5.5

Lucky St Michaels forfeited last Saturday

Congratulations to PAC
Heard they were to good, were a team full of men that wanted the game more.
Good work to St Micks aswell, would be the most successful school in the state for footy that doesnt offer scholarships or have borders.

I dont think any school could be compared to Sacred Heart, they are out and out the best footballing school.
PAC and St Peters have started to step it up in last few years from offering more scholarships, or so it is said.

probably the best 6 schools in the state for school footy would have to be
Sacred heart
PAC
St Peters
Rostrevor
St Micks
Henley
think it is a credit that henley and st micks are so competative when being so close and one being a public school. ( i know PAC and St Peters are close aswell, but they also get borders)

Spot on Iron Fist, SMC do well to be around the mark most years, despite not offering scholarships/boarding.

schimma wrote:

was at the game! thought pac were just too good. Had some solid players in the side and there captain Day was head and shoulders above anyone else on the ground. They were actually harder at the ball. Some St micks lads just wanted to fight. And did not attack the ball. Only bad part on the night was the supporting of the pac students. Looks like all there parents are spending great amounts of money to learn to swear and act like jerks.

Pac won it 2 years ago. but very true before that had not won it for a number of years.

Schimma, the fighting was from both sides, not one. The PAC lads did look harder around the footy however, not fumbling like the SMC lads did. A lot of the kids from SMXC are only in year 11, and won't be surprised if they're back there next year. They would have learned a lot from the experience.
I thought Day was good, I also thought Sam Tonkes #6 from SMC did well with limited opportunities. I wa surprised he spent all of his time up forward.
Some good goals and grabs in the game too hey Schimma...

True, the playing surface is not the best in the Amateur League but its not that bad considering it would be one of the only grounds in the league without irrigation. It has taken a massive effort by a handful of individuals at the club to keep the from dying altogether the summer.

I also know that the club is very serious about improving its facilities over time- never easy for a small club to do but they have already made significant investments at the ground and intend to make further investments in the future...

Will be good to see what happens at the oval then. Any pre concieved thoughts on what you aguys will be doing there. How do you guys generate funds etc. Maybe a stupid question knowing you have sponsors like all clubs but a refit on any level is expensive. We did have help form the council ofcourse and they did an awesome job with it. Non biast but its one of the better facilities in the league if you take away the fact that there are no major pubs or pokies etc attached to the building. Agreed Hunter Park could probably be the better grounds to go play and watch footy when its done. What is it you have done so far? Not trying to besmrt but you said taht tehre has been alterations and the like done already? And yes we dont mind coming up Port Rd to play and its not an issue. By Saturday morning we would have all had our Doll forms in and cashed up. Most of us will have the goon bags and run across to maccas for nutrition. ;)

I am pretty sure the club is looking at installing irrigation and has been conducting fundraisers for a number of years now to find the money to do it.

The club installed lighting on the eastern side of the ground several years ago. Whilst this does not add much to the facilities on match days, the upgrade was absolutely essential for training purposes. Without the lights, we were pretty much restricted to training on the changeroom side of the oval. In addition, they have spent not insignificant funds on upgrading the changerooms which are in constant need of work given the regularity at which they are vandalised.

Of course, these upgrades would be near impossible without government/council assistance but even with their help, it takes the club many years to build up to making an investment such as installing irrigation at the ground.

In any event, I think the installation of irrigation at the ground will make a huge difference to the playing surface and I hope to see this happen within the next season or so.

Time to start thinking seriously about this week's games.

I must admit to being surprised as to how it has ended up, full credit to Portland & Mitcham for proving me wrong.

Hunter Park suits Iggies down to the ground, I think their midfield will at least match Portland and I feel their forward marking power is stronger. Iggies by 30 points.

Having seen CBCOC at their very best in round 1, I have been a fan of their game. We got the points at home in round 10 but the weather was very ordinary. They are a much better side when injury free & on a fast track. Mitcham have surprised & impressed me with their intensity & work rate, and a lot of growing confidence. Having seen PAOC get knocked off last week, they will be having a lot of belief in themselves now. As has been proven by teams finishing 2nd through 7th, any one of those sides can beat any of the other on their day. Here goes at this stage anyhow......if CBC have close to a full deck, if the weather is fine, if the ground is in reasonable condition & if they are aware Mitcham rebound very strongly through the CORRIDOR & their key forwards are not afraid to play up the ground and lead back towards the goals - CBC by 10 points. If not, Mitcham by 30.

Finally, did Seaton wake up a sleeping giant last week? Reminds me a tad of when the Power knocked Geelong off at Kardinia Park in the last minor round game in 2007.

pretty good assesment there X runna. I would like to think that our midfield would win that contest, the big test for us will be keeping white quiet and also atkinson if he plays aswell. need to be smarter going forward aswell as pedler just gets heaps of it across the back if you dont use the ball well.

Think CBC will get up by about 20pts against Mitcham. From what I have seen both play a similar style, Douglas is the obvious key for CBC and Flanigan is the key for Mitcham. Will be a good fast game out at CBC.

On PAOC, lets hope that Seaton havent awoken any sleeping giants. they will defintely come out firing next week against either us or Old iggies though.
I cant see it happening but a similar finals campaign as 2008 for PAOC would be very helpful for the other 4 sides in the finals.

About that, but he really shouldn't have played for a few weeks after that too. Was way underdone both fitness and injury wise and took those few weeks to really get going.

Lukey likes to talk! Shows that Umpires hear it, as he was clearly our standout player.

Cibich will likely top our polling.

And also good of the SAAFL to recognise that has our A grade made the finals, we would have picked 26 players in that side.

no Laslett really surprised me considering he doesnt back chat, had a great season and is a proven vote getter.
Moody has had a good year but does a fair bit of back chatting and umpires might notice his arrogance towards opposition players and not look favourably

Wareing may have missed out due to the fact that when he has ventured out on the park this year (which was rare) he hasnt left the goal square ;)
