yeah raider nation, WC are very good.
at fawk reserve the oval is laid out on an angle where the wind was blowing directly down the ground, which gave a huge advantage to the team heading with the wind. it was almost impossible to get the ball into a pocket and hold it there to kill time. WC were able to marginally outscore us in the first & third qtrs going into it, but they kicked 13.5 in the second and 10.14 in the last.
they are just so well balanced with many talls, good strong midfielders, and a more than capable defence.
it sounds funny but it didn't feel like we got beaten by 180. i don't think we'd say we had shocker. going into the wind we were able to hold up play for 5 or 6 minutes at a time, but as soon as they kicked a goal and it went back to a centre break they were able to bust it out of the centre and score 3 or 4 in a couple of minutes. we simply weren't skilful enough to capitalise when we were going with the wind.
it was a very long game - we got the final score of our Div1 a grade's game at the four minute mark of the last quarter in our game!
I don't know if there's anything in this but WC recently beat houghton by over 100 but houghton only went down by a couple to lockleys. would be interesting to hear an opinion on whether that's where the two top sides are at or if those scores are just anomalies.
I must add that overall the humility of the WC players & officials in such a big win was commendable. To be respectful to your opposition especially when there is clearly a gap in the capabilities of each is a good attribute for players and clubs to have, so well done WC.
