In the lower grades i.e. C grade I've seen numerous umpires influenced by other players opinions eg #4 is having a great game, this bloke is BOG etc.
I tend to agree with that. A couple of years ago I wasn't feeling the best so spent majority of the first 3 quarters on the bench. Came on to play the last quarter, kicked 3 and set up a couple - 3 votes!
We've done it since forever with the umpires voting, But I'd still like to see the coaches vote 3,2,1 for the oppositions best players each week. Who they thought hurt them the most on the field. Coaches MVP. Maybe something the footy budget or radio show could do?
