HUUUGE win for the Panthers, inspired by Captain Bascombe with 5 goals, great to knock off the gawler tigers and send their 3 supporters home crying

Say what you like JD but the Barossa figure is very close to the mark, this maybe why they are a little stretched financially now. I'm not sure what they are paying this year but the last 2 have been right up there. 151, I'm pretty sure Taylor isn't getting a dime from the blockies as he is OS. As I have siad the top or 4 (Greenwood, Newberry, Prior & Britton) are on good money but the others are on stuff all. I have heard the Underwood boys get nothing except sponsorship for their business, perhaps you could confirm this blockie.

Anyway what a shock to see the results when I opened the Sunday Mail. It just shows how close the comp is (except for the top 2 sides). The bombers are in and ango is knocking on the door. Willaston & South what the hell is going on. Bomber Prouse is a very good coach, Freeling should have put him on, the local lads wanted him.

As for the most hated player it is most certainly Bascombe, sorry JD & Sunbowler but I think you will find he will win in a landslide. Other than that the comp is pretty good.

Leave me out of most hated player as it is an immature topic. On clubs spending most on players there are several options to factor in; ie base payments, best player awards, employment and the odd dressed beast in the boot.
On an appearance money only basis for key players the order would be as follows;
level 1:Tanunda and Barossa tied,
Level 2: Willaston, Gawler Central, South Gawler
Level 3: Angaston, Nuriootpa, Kapunda
Level 4: Freeling ( injuries & othew reasons means full list not playing, if their complete list was playing then they would be up there).
None of these amounts involved at this stage are anywhere near the figures quoted.
Factor in employment, business considerations, best player awards, gifts and cash floating around the club and the two leaders remain the same but if it was more than $60k total value at the ATO I would be surprised. If they could Freeling would be there too, but I can't see that they would be shelling out big bikkies to players not playing.
The order after them would still be the same as above.

Nuri look to be playing well and they are the team to watch in the next few week. Don't count them out to up in the 4. Ango over Central. After that game Central would have to be thinking that 3 spot is the best they will do. Here we go again talk about imports and town population. Things must be going bad for some teams so out comes the cry about imports. This is proberly why team pay so much. Players come to this leauge and hear all this talk about imports so they will only sign a 1 year deal because they could be cut because of import rules. i twould be good to see a list of Imports this leauge has had in the last 5 years. Would it be in the 100's.

Bang on target Holden06, the import games that go on every year is becoming a shambles. Money hungry players just seem to flow through and appear at some other poor country club the following season. 151 makes a point that the blockies may well be slipping money under the table. With the salary cap gone it is not in any clubs interest to slip money under the table. Payed players sign emp decs and any cash payments therefore become non tax deductable. This was fine when the the salary cap was in if clubs wanted to beat it but now it makes no sense to hide payments as it makes no financial sense, get the tax deduction.

Skip, the under the table stuff comes into play because a lot of players, especially the ones on big biccies don't want to pay tax on that money. I do agree that all country clubs are targets for overrated money chasers, on a yearly basis they come knocking with their inflated credentials & just go from club to club trying to bump their price up.

Moz, we play Kapunda at ang in a battle for 4th place, should be a great game & yes Johno was naturally enthused after the win, I still cant understand where the unsettling instructions talk came from recently, he hasn't got the type of players you'd need to carry out those instructions anyhow, its a team full of kids like John Roesler who weighs abot 55-60 kg's (and is a fave to win the rookie of the year). I guess when a coach shows some passion & wears heart on his sleeve he becomes a target 4 those who want to undermine the progress being made

That'd be Andrew Pech, after a patchy start to the year, his last couple of months has been great, he played in the winning team in the country zone champs last week in the riverland, you should introduce yourself to Johno, he'd love to meet you.

gotta agree with Aaron "King hit", & Bascombe is annoying as hell but at least he doesn't take blokes out when there backs turned, more often than not, if you look closely he's retaliating after being punched in the head himself, which is rare these days since becoming captain he's been very clean in this area also.

I distinctly remember last year Ango vs Willaston... Bascombe belting Chris McLean during the warm-up! Definitely the most hated player...

Fair enough about the most hated player sunbowler, we are better than that. JD with the salary cap out of the way I would be surprised if any well run club would now slip money under the table due to the all the taxation rules and the accountability with GST statements. Basically the money has to be accounted for and will be picked up in the auditing process and any auditor will not be impressed if cash just disapears. The only way to get away with it is if a very generous person outside the club makes the donation. Sunbowler makes the point about employment, incentive awards etc. Obviously very hard to calculate this but the employment issue is interesting. I think it is great to recruit players with employment. It brings them into the community where they live and spend their money and sometimes bring their family. Country clubs have been doing it for years, every year the WA clubs openly advertise for farm workers that can play footy.

Match of the round JD for sure, this will basically see who may finish 4th. Beware of the Bombers, some very good players in good form and it sounds as though they are all warming towards their coach. I will say again Freeling made a huge mistake letting Prouse go he will become a very good coach in the BLG

Skipper, are you suggesting that South, Willaston and Nuri have no chance of making the final 4?? Both South and Willaston have a game in hand over Kapunda and Angaston...

What mid season recuits did Willaston end up picking up? My source told me they were looking at Jason Williams from Bridgewater, did he end up signing and is he worth the dollars?

TR without looking at the draw it is not looking that good for both of them. It will come down to the final round. Kapunda are my long shot due to the fact that is coming together for them and it is falling apart for south & willaston. We can only look at current form.

Willaston signed Shaun Childs from Sturt/Scotch O.C. and Chad Norsworthy returned from South Adelaide. Hasn't seemed to help their performance though.

Shaun Childs is predominantly a key position backman although he is the size that can play anywhere. Chad Norsworthy is a midfielder. Played loose in defense on the weekend. Tanunda were extremely impressive and made Willaston pay for their countless turnovers.
