Moz apart from the two that Timmies gave ya, there aren't actually a lot except for the "traditional" Tigers, Panthers, Bombers, Lions, Redlegs, bulldogs etc. Tanunda aka Blockies aka Metty eaters are also called the Box heads, or the cubic craniums depending upon who is dishy out the one liners. Ah the joys of being loved and hated all at the same time!! ya just got love footy!!

Have never heard of the one John Doe suggests for Barossa Districts, not sure what it evens means. I'm sure Hafey has one for them far more interesting though!!

I see you seem to be a little worried about Willaston and its potential problems. I hear that on Tues night they all stood around Baker and hit him with foot long metty sticks just to get him fired him to give you metty breaths a flogging. Don't know if it will work. My tips are Blockies (how could you not considering all the factors), South to end Nuri's run, Kapunda to cement Freeling on the bottom & GC the run riot over Ango. Blockie big call on the tiger pups if the bigman and Fiegert are out.

Oh dear skip...weather getting to you!! It was 6 foot long metty sticks at the Willaston training. Seriously always worried about Willaston cause you just never know which side is going to turn up at 2.20!!

Holden, any view on the South/Nuri game??

Ain't that the truth, not enough import allocations he has got to be kidding. If Freeling wanted more players they would have got them and parked them on a farm in a caravan. Leal just isn't a very good coach, he is badly missing Prouse on the sideline and he has lost control of his team. Some massive problems out there that need to be solved. Good rain with good grain prices may see another big rebuild next year. Unlike most clubs that rebuild over 3 or 4 years Freeling will try and do it in 1 with the cheque book.

South Gawler were known as the Lunchcutters for a while but the most sensational recent case of this have probably occurred at the Donnybrooks (Willaston). Nuri Tigers have also been called the Swampies/Swamp Rats by their opposition. One of their own 'Honest John' labelled them the Boring Barries. Both Angaston and Barossa have been accused of mischief with goats. The irony of the Blockies ( or squareheads in days of yore) is that very few are these days.

Nuriootpa V South Gawler
Gawler Central V Angaston
Kapunda V Freeling
Willaston V Tanunda

Blockie, You asked about the South/ Nuri Game and I say Nuri to win. South are not in a good sate and a lot of work needs to be done. Problems like the one's they have can't be fixed in a week. Nuri look to be getting the wheels moving and are a dark horse for 4 spot.

A fairly strong story circulating that Scott Leal may be targeted by Broadview next season. Since he has a strong connection with D. Wintle who is retiring from league footy and some ex North Adelaide boys, it sounds like a possibilty . It does appear that it will probably be from Div 2 and the word is that this may be the best way to get them back in Div 1.
Interesting!!!! :)

Skip, can you enlighten us with any information, you seem to be on them money over that way??

From what I have heared that the coach is sick of all the arguing on the ground. I have also been told that some of the players are sick of the players that are not training both night and getting games. At the level of footy team like that will never win a flag.

Are you suggesting I follow Freeling Blockie, Just keep guessing champ. I do have some very good contacts over there. There are some major problems off the field but I'm not too sure whether there is arguing on the field just a lot of banter behind everyones backs. I think there will be some big changes next year, Leal is certainly gone, if he is not pushed he will jump off anyway. There may also be some changes at the excecutive level but these are only rumours at this stage. Anyone who wants a laugh go to the Adelaide Plains blogs and have a read. We are very subdue on this blog, we discuss the best coach and players have a small go at each other, they discuss which player they hate and them abuse each other.

are you trying to say the Lions are in a good state? I'll believe that when I see it. Any team with a Strachanie lookalike (Coombs) is gonna be trapped in mediocrity

John Doe just read the article in the Bunyip with Leal having a whinge about the import rule. An absolute load of BS, everyone knows that the redlegs have had a good time under a generous allocation but still could not win a flag. As you said they have outside players that are now considered "locals". Perhaps Leal with all his contacts could have recruited a little better this year. Leal also can't blame the import allocation rule on the run of injuries that they are currently having.

Bit early to be calling coaching positions isn't it? I'm pretty sure the only ex coach of Barossa over the past several years not to have a current coaching job is Bob Ellis or is someone suggesting something else, you never know perhaps Steve Lubcke. I can't see any problems with the current allocations, the bigger centres like Gawler (except South get 4), Tanunda & Nuri get the least (3) and smaller centres like Freeling get the max. Kapunda only get 3, I reakon they have a small case to argue for 1 more, could probably steal it off Barossa (4) who do actually have a large area to draw from.

As per the last census the populations relevant to the BLG clubs were as follows;
Angaston - 3,488
Barossa Districts - 5,635
Gawler - 21,465 ( divided by 3 clubs =7,155, divided by 4 clubs = 5,366)
Freeling - 3,645
Kapunda - 3,504
Nuriootpa - 7,627
Tanunda - 5,401
The 'new' formula only allows between 3 - 6 imports with only the smallest urban areas ever able to achieve 6. Freeling has the youngest median age, followed by Gawler & Nuri. The rest are all over 40 with Kapunda the oldest at 41.5.
The old formula when applied without Director's discretion was the best because it encouraged the larger urban areas to develope players within their own community. As I see it the underlying push behind this new formula was to bring a premiership to a Gawler Club. GCFC last one back in 2000 & looks like Tanunda are going to upset that plan this season.
