The GSFL has asked all clubs to put in their thoughts on the Points System for the next Delegates meeting. There is a belief that there should be a standard Points System for the State.

What are our thoughts of the current system? It seems to be working OK at the moment.

Everyone and every club has a different view on the points system, the one area I think that needs to be looked at is the allocated points for the side that finishes 1 spot out of finals in 6th. They are allocated the same points as the top 5 sides so what does a club gain by finishing 6th instead 7th?? Could we see sides 'tank' to make sure they dont finish 6th and allocated minimum points for the next season?

Its a bit bewildering as to how they came up with 1st-6th get the same amount of points!

We saw the points system do its job this year, to restrict clubs from going out and buying 6-10 players. I however feel when a club has a big turnover of players or are a long way off the pace they simply cant catch up in 1 year. I hate the thought of a player wanting to play at a club but cant due to points.

Theres also no use recruiting guys for 3 points that stick around for 1 year then leave/retire as the club then has to go and recruit again rather than solidify the team, add new blood each year and over 3-4 years you've built a strong side.

Its a difficult situation, it is serving its purpose and the fact its transparent does make it a little tougher for the rich clubs to dominate!

Point system I think is working very well, our big problem is the fact that we have 1 dominant team in our comp in Willunga. Apart from that I think we are seeing the system actually working. I would like to see some minor adjustments like being compenstated for losing 0 point players to clubs within the GSFL and maybe a different tier system eg 1-3 (11 points) 4-7 (14 points) 8-10 (17 points). Agree on BJ about the disappointment of seeing blokes not playing with their preferred club because of points. This will happen to us in 2010.

In other news, is it tru that D.Ellis will be missing 2-4 weeks with a calf injury?

What about the perennial game-winner TW? Is he suffering from an undisclosed injury? Will the great man require time on the sidelines?

The Goolwa juggernaut came to a halt on saturday arvo, but the club really seems to be moving in the right direction.

If you stay in the top 6 you will drop from 14pts to 11pts but all that will do is stop you from recruiting any more than one player, Won't It?

Appalling behaviour displayed by some Goolwa supporters, not to mention the actions of a Goolwa life member and part of the committee abusing ex-player Shane Fox during and at the finale of play. Inexcusable and ordering the Goolwa charges to by-pass him during the post-game hand-shake. Poor sportsmanship.

This post would want to be deleted by the moderators because it is a load of crap. I am sure that Foxy would not have come up for presentations if he had copped the so called abuse you are talking about.

All in the heat of the moment stuff mate and was expect from some. All the players were great and played hard and fair all day, they where more worried about the game and trying to get the win and showed how far they have come as a team that has not changed too much just the attitude is a whole lot better.

It will allow us to recruit 1 player, so what would we say to the other couple interested in getting on board?

What to say..
1. You will be the highest paid reserves players going around.
2. If you want to wear Black and white you will need to play reserves for a year or two.
3. Either you go or Zac goes...are you better and cheaper than him.
4. Sorry boys Willunga are the only club with points you need to go there and play for nothing, the same as Hamsy, Portlock, Thomas etc
5. Have you got a brother who is U/17 who is good enough to play A/s
6. Are you sure you haven't played for two years?
7. Do you know how to change your name by deed poll?
8. We need a good runner
9. Can you stick to the fabricated story we make up...even when you are pisst
10. See you next year

After reading the papers today I'm a little bit more comfortable with the Creeks loss last week. Seems 4 key players were out before the game and on top of that there was no bench left by 3 quarter time. A 12 point loss to Mt Compass is a fair result in those circumstances to be honest.

Hopefully a few of the boys are back this week to give Victor a shake, shaping up to be a ripper Saturday. Can't wait! :D

Another Saturday's Senior tips
A good round, with some close ones
Myponga to win their first game for the year against Encounter Bay. Will they rush Dan Thomasson straight into the A's. Returned to SA this week and looks fit.
Strathalbyn too good for Yankalilla
Willunga will beat Goolwa. Unfortunate for Goolwa to have a few out at the wrong time
McLaren to upset Mt Compass
Toss a coin for the match of the round.
Came down heads for Victor to just win against Langhornes.
Will come down to fitness and luck with injuries on the day

Ellis has kicked 28 out of VH's 80 goals (35%), but that doesnt count the amount of contests he creates which provides goals for other players.

Tips

Myponga too good at home
Strathalbyn over Yank, but wont be as easy as people think
Willunga, what more needs to be said
Compass, just a bit too much class for the ever improving Crows
Creeks, match of the round VH without Ellis, Fox and Weetra lose 5 goals from last week
You can love football, but it wont always love you back!
