Phantom Gossiper wrote:Interesting squad.. P. Carmen comes as a bit of a suprise, as does R. Figallo.
N. Brookes hasn't exactly had an amazing season and B. Jenner with the exception of his back to back 50s has struggled also.
R. Hannun most of his runs against Parafield Gardens, has missed a few games and has struggled a bit apart from that.
A. Seccafien has hardly set the world alight since returning.
What about the two lads from Riverside in Grade 2 - Edge & Kinnear? or Matt Bennetts from Salisbury North & Frankie McConnell from EP?

There were 3 people looking into a possible team with a week and a half notice, no fault of the PDCA, had to wait for the games to be scheduled.
A large chunk of the current in-form players are playing under 21's which is on the same day, had to select enough to cover any unavailabilities.
P.Carman: Not setting the world on fire but his capabilities are known.
Brookesy: As above.
B.J: Has had a reasonable year, keeps aswell.
Raed: Scored an 80 odd against Angle Vale too, form hasn't been great but we know his capabilities, good for all 3 disciplines.
Secca's: Has had some tidy spells.

Edge & Kinnear: Obviously will be thought of aswell, when you have 3 B Grade sides in Grade 2 and Salisbury North who are lacking bowlers makes the standard a bit different to representative cricket.
Bennetts: 18 years old, thought he'd be in the U21's.
McConnell: I don't think he's keen.

Hope that clears a few things up for you mate, had to look at players that we KNOW will want to play and have done so before, not an easy task with limited phone numbers and time, a months notice would've been handy, what about you? You keen?

LM, im not familiar with young bennetts ? what club? , as with the seniors, time wasnt on our side for 21s selection , most gr 1 and gr 2 clubs were contacted to submit any available players and his name didnt come up, the players who played away in game 1 have been given 1st choice to be available for the home games 2+3 .

If you have a better suggestion I'm all side rear vision mirrors.

The obvious selection would be parkhouse but he is injured or not available. What about Thomas from cu? Crowhurst?? AV?

Certainly, thought Crowhurst kept extremely well on Saturday, with BJ though, you know you are getting an experienced player who can bat anywhere in the line-up.
As for Thomas, isn't he under 21?

Ricky Thomas is over 21,he would play if a keeper is required, Jack Thomas 18 is in the 21s

Wouldn't think so. He would probably be selected in under 21. Maybe bags could confirm.

Batting stats don't look great, would go for Taylor from Smithfield if it was purely on keeping skills.

Just a thought. You get a look at him first hand this week anyway.

Certainly do, also hoping my mate Frothies can find a way to leave his district game to come and have a look

The thing with Ass. teams is that there are always different views on who should be included and there are always going to be players that are picked on reputation not current form. Nature of the beast unfortunately

in my opinion, the team unfortunately gets selected firstly on who is a willing captain, they choose who they know, weighted heavilly towards their club ( because thats who they know most) , and we dont always get the best players wanting to play, hopefully with col rundle and/or super looking over it, there will be a more even spread of clubs represented and maybe we could see a new group of PDCA cricketers represent us.

You make a very valid point Oz, why does the U21's team have a lock on the young players?
Surely, the Open team should be the priority and if players from the U21's are deemed to be in the best XI then they should be playing in the open team.

excellent, that makes you available oz, regardless of your age  ...LFS the u/21s dont have any lock , but they have already played a game in their competition, they scrapped together only 11 players (hard to get a 12th to give up his sunday, and not to play) all the players have been issued with uniforms etc, 11 players from 16 gr1+2 teams should leave enough senior players to cover the 1 or 2, u21s that may fall into this category, these lads will eventually move to the seniors, maybe the 21-35 year olds can step up and play in the meantime. ps i also believe there is way too much inter assoc cricket, all juniors, 11, 12, 13 , 16s and including 15s in which we dont actually have a comp for, 21s and seniors, all play at least 3 games+ each.... too much doesnt make it special or a thrill to be selected anymore...

Under 21's comp is redundant anyway IMO, it doesn't have any reflection at all on standards of different comps.

After being 3-182 Smitty all out for 221 pretty disappointing actually. Central United 0-13 at stumps
Need to take some early wickets next week and see where the day takes us.
We had Mr Amos this week, there were 2 or 3 close LBW's in our innings given not out, 2 could have gone either way. The confusing one was one that struck Raad on the back pad in front of middle that CU didn't appeal for, Bagster mumbled something from short cover but that was the extent of the appeal.
We had a blatant edge caught behind that was not given off of Fenners, I don't expect the bloke to walk but was pretty disappointed as the noise was loud enough that there couldn't be doubt.
To finish my disappointment rant - Frothies didnt show :(

RC 230 today against OTH

3 or 4 dropped chances hurt us big time. M.Feltus batted well for 47. tail wagged.

Oth 0/10 or so at stumps

Are you suggesting that he should be selected in the squad on the basis that he has a relative who appeared on a tv show flop like cricket superstar? Or that he is talented? Surely some sort of good form would be a pre-requisite...

Can't see how any of that makes sense over picking a bloke for assoc cricket....pretty sure he wouldn't play even if his last name was sibbick

Scott's performances in the one dayers has been good, taken wickets and had a good economy rate, Scott's a good lad and would relish the opportunity to play at representative level which is a pre-requisite considering the amount that aren't available.
