OVERNIGHT SCORES
GRADE 1

ATCO 1/97 vs Vale 91
Craigmore 9/309 vs Virginia
Westies 2/109 vs Units 103
Goats 199 vs Rosies 0/12

ATCO should be looking for quick runs and push for an outright win, same as Westies, get about 150-160 in front and have another bowl. Craigmore you'd assume have enough runs on the board, should be a cracking day's cricket up at McGilp Oval, where the Billiegoats could open up a bit of a buffer from the main pack.

GRADE 2
Gardens 4/108 vs Westies 79
Sal. Nth 190 vs Parkers 1/40
Rosies 127 vs Riverside 1/43
Smitty 4/203 vs Vale 186

Gardens should take clear top after this week, they have had a favourable draw though, they meet the Parkers, Smitty & Riverside over the next 3 rounds though to give us a better indication where they're at?
Parker's should keep their unbeaten record in tact and Riverside should be able to account for Rosie's from here.
Smitty should be making every possible effort to gain an outright win to consolidate a spot in the 4 with a bit of a buffer.

Be a good time to raise the 6 team per grade debate aswell, the bottom 4 in Grade 1 all seem to be in the same sort of ball park and Grade 2 I think will start creating gaps, kind of hard for Rosie's, Westie's & Vale to have B's in Grade 2, Eastern Park would have to be clear cut favourite's though IMO.

Definately promises to be a cracker of a run chase this week. We have very much been a "Jekyll and Hyde" with our batting, able to post a large score against Craigmore, but then having a horrid performance against Westies & ATCO we strung a couple of strong partnerships together as well.

I believe our batting depth is very good, but OTH have some very capable bowlers, and who ever wins will most certainly have earnt it and worked hard for it

yeah its good to see a whole team of 11 come back n have a beer n socialise. the day was played in great spirits, with plenty of good cricket from both sides. Relationships between the two clubs have always been very good during the 5 years i have played in PDCA.

Troy Scott dominated the score card with a commanding 78 including a few monstrous sixes... including a one handed bomb over deep square leg, and one that landed well into the playground on the road side of the ground. Jenner was just relentless in his lines and lengths and with his variations of swing and movement he had the batsmen guessing all day long. and just quietly, without giving him too big of a head, Bedgegood also bowled 2 very tidy spells i must admit. game is in the balance i reckon, very much
looking forward to next week

Yep Scott batted well after he was plumb early ;) He played some great shots for sure.. As for DJ, a very smart bowler.. It doesn't take him long to work batsmen out, set them up and send them on their way. Was also nice to see an honest square leg for a change in relation to run outs & stumpings.. Helps set up the spirit of the game you speak about when a bloke's honest. We to are looking forward to next week & a few coldies with you lads afterwards..

Always a great and enjoyable contest when the Goats meet R&C. This game is proving to be no exception, can't wait for Saturday.

Mate, I'm afraid to say, but I highly doubt this will ever fly.
Don't think there are too many who actually want to change anything.
Seems to be filed in the too hard basket.
With that... a slight deflection to the next topic!

Spot on the gap is getting bigger, the standard has fallen away over the years now, the commitee should look at another system, especially A grade side and B grade sides all playing each other. I know some B grade sides are better then some A grade sides right now, but would make it far more competitive in Grade 2 if the 2 bottom grade 1 sides played with the top 4 grade 2 and so on in grade 1 with the top 6. barossa league has a good set up, make an exception for clubs like wasleys who will always struggle against the bigger clubs.

Grade 1
Salisbury West
One tree Hill
Central United
Rose & Crown
Angle Vale
Craigmore

Grade 1 reserves
Rose & Crown
Angle Vale
Salisbury West
ATCO
Central United
One Tree Hill

Grade 2
Virginia
ATCO
Parafield gardens
Eastern Park
Riverside
Smithfield

Grade 2 Reserves
Craigmore
Smithfield
Eastern Park
Parafield gardens
North Pines
Riverside

And So on.........?

Have it like an A1, A2 etc where A grades play just A grades and after that open slather. B grade sides playing C grades isn't a big deal, but you'd need to make sure a sides in the position that Wasleys are can play where they might be competitive. I don't see any benefit in having A1 reserves.

Have to agree , only way a 1 reserves works is if they are a grade sides that can come up to grade 1.

SAMCA have finally released the venue for the next round of 20/20 games

Payneham vs Craigmore @ 9:30am @ Payneham Oval
Goodwood vs Rosies @ 12:30pm @ Payneham Oval

Would have thought there might have been a couple of venues that have the facilities to hold two games at the same time?
On the bright side, at least we got the late game. Pretty sure we have a couple of fellas that have a Christmas show on the Saturday night.

Not disputing that fact at all Oz, just a little perplexed as to why a venue with two ovals, ala Pooraka, wasn't chosen?

And Norm.... huh? Did you mean day/date? December 2nd.

I'd rather see whoever your A's play, your B's play the same club away.
Based purely on current positions.

Grade 1 & 1R
Angle Vale
Central United
Craigmore
One Tree Hill
Rose & Crown
Salisbury West
2 & 2R
ATCO
Eastern Park
Parafield Gardens
Riverside
Smithfield
Virginia
3
North Pines
Para Techers
Salisbury North
Two Wells
..............and other clubs that want their C's playing two dayers. Same as Grade 4.

This would keep the games a bit more evenly matched, one up, one down.

The thing stopping it is that it would have to be a 2 year plan, you couldn't announce now that 3 clubs are going to get relegated next season from Grade 1, clubs would need more than a season to prepare for the worst.

Dropping to 6 teams per grade and having a reserves comp is a rubbish idea, and would require a great deal of planning before it could almost even be considered being implemented.

Not to mention you would then lose as much as 4 games of cricket per season.

Besides what a crap time to bring up that suggestion.. if R&C knock off OTH this week, you will see possibly 3 upsets - ATCO, Craigmore & Rosies get up, with the exception of Westies who are playing a depleted units, the comp will look far more even after this round depending on results..

Grade 2 has been an ongoing issue for a while now. Could incorporate a separate one day final and perhaps throw in a T20 competition for the other spare weeks.

I think the question and issue that needs to be asked and addressed is not how can we close the gap, but how can we improve the standard and attract cricketers and quality cricketers either to or back to the game..

Pretty hard to attract players nowadays unless it's with coin. I don't think you guys getting up is such an upset, you have played in the last 3 GF's. Craigmore and ATCO getting up are no real surprises for me either, I' guessing the final's race will be over by round 11 this season.
