That's great news mate. :D 8) It would be a travesty if someone of your calibre, personally & skillfully, never made it onto the plane for a Carny. ;)

Fully agree with your sentiments as well. You're either in or out. No in between. End of story. ;)

I to agree with the timing issue but this whole div1 thing is crap.

So the Enfield coach agrees to terms with Greg Blewett to play at Enfield but come ass. time we cant pick him cause his div 2??? FFS give me a break look at the big picture div 2 players can still play.......

I am sure some of you people are slightly retarded.
I am saying you pick from div 1 first then pick from other divs after .....IS IT THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
glad I am not on the committee to pick this assoc side , reackon I might punch a couple of people. CAREY you play div 2 so your saying if someone in div 1 is better than you you should still get picked first because you already played in the carnival ?
thats what is crap mate, if there are better players in div 1 one then they are first choice regardless who they are, if I put my hand up this year and someone is better than me then you pick them ....not hard is it. or do you want me to type slower.

I think you've taken me out of context mate the point i was making was the best 11 should be picked regardless of what grade they play.

And yes the best 11 logically should come from div1 but if there are players in div2 or what ever grade that are in the best 11 they should be picked regardless.
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

I think it's a good idea to start with Division 1 players yes. But in saying that, there are alot of good players who don't play divison 1 because there club isn't in division 1 and there are also good players at clubs with only 1 team meaning they are often thrashing out good scores or taking bags of wickets in divisions that go relatively un-noticed in rep circles.

I'm told that the carnival is the most enjoyable aspect of rep cricket in through our association and the fact that no other association has an inter-state carnival like it, makes it that much more special and players who do make it, that much more grateful for being given the opportunity to compete at that level.

Whilst it is ultimately up to the players to commit to this, I think it woud also pay hansomely for the senior coaches/managers of these sides to contact desired players personally. I'm not suggesting kissing there tooshs, all's I'm saying is good communication between the parties could be the key to getting together the strongest side this association can get and for me, I think that very side would be formiddable and very hard to beat ;)

P.S And in saying that about communication, i am not at all suggesting that the communication is poor. I'm suggesting that there are other forms of communication that may work better for certain individuals.

Rest assured Lairdy, all attempts to take the best side into each Carnival are explored. ;) In fact, the 'education process' of informing players about what is required of them has been occurring since 2005, including ensuring work and 'marital' leave passes are obtained WELL in advance - 12mths in advance wherever possible.

I can also enlighten you that a 'wishlist' squad of 20 players is drawn up by the coach & manager and contact with those players is made personally to sound out their interest and availability, WELL in advance! Ask any of the last 3 Carnival sides I've coached, they can confirm that. ;) Then of course, training is organised (on turf wickets) for 6-8wks prior to jumping aboard the plane, where EVERYONE is invited to come out and show us what they've got. Afterall, new guys come in each year & some leave our comp, so everyone gets a crack at throwing their hat into the ring. I must also add that NEVER has the ‘wishlisted’ team eventuated, for whatever reason.

In addition to the above, EVERY spot is up for grabs, from the skipper right down to the 13th man. The best 13 will be picked from those available, regardless of what grade they play. We have some basic rules around the sort of qualities we look for in a player, and first and foremost is attitude. We will simply not put up with tools or anyone who we deem will not gel in a team environment. Obviously, skills/talent then come into play, along with passion and a willingness to listen & learn and work hard.

Fully agree though – if we fielded our BEST side, we would be coming back to Adelaide with the chockies – except for Harry, who came home with a ‘chicky’ last time.. We’ll see where we’re at in 12mths time…..
