Is Wright really AFL standard? Good player, but I'm not sure.

Half time 7.2 apiece

Bar the first 10 minutes, the Crows have played well. Some great contested ball, effecient disposals.

Umpiring an absolute disgrace, they've been St Kilda's best players tonight - St Kilda are only getting possession from frees

you umpires are the biggest pieces of crap, what a joke talk about pulling decisions out your ass,how does nick dalsanto get a free from getting hit head high from his team mate just guessing cause he threw his head back.anyway cant watch anymore why is doughty still playing on milne surely in the 3rd when the little disease kicked 2 in a row that was enough.why is schmidt still playing on schinder after getting a couple kicked on him in a row,why has no one played on mongtana and allowed him to kick 5 as a midfielder from 38 touches. and why is walker still in the side, neil craig you have to take responsibility here very very poor, lets get paul roo,s in for next year.

Third quarter was still competitive by the Crows, only down by 9 points.

Last quarter was a complete and utter disgrace!

Totally agree thought the crows were in with a chance at 3 quarter time only to be let down by an insipid last :evil: Terrible display crows now to bring the dummy spitter back for next week :evil:

The last qtr was very disappointing..
But let's put some perspective in it..

Bock got injured 1/2 way through the 3rd qtr and our defence contained players like Davis, Schmidt, Armstrong with a total of 20 games between them.

Our midfield had players like Sloane, Douglas and MacKay who again haven't played that much footy.

Our forward line was Walker, Petrenko, Dangerfield with a total of 60 games between them.

Last night we had
4 players with 10 games or less experience
5 players with 11 - 50 games experience

Good players don't just grow on trees.. you need to draft them and build them and it's happening..
We have had 6 debutants this year in;
Gunstan, Armstrong, Henderson, Jaensch, Young, Davis
and guys who had played 1 or 2 games prior to this year in;
Cook, Sloane, Schmidt...

I'm not sure what else you expect :? :?
I much preferred being at the game last night then the North one and we only lost by 2 goals to North....
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Excellent post SCD. Puts a lot of perspective on the current situation. Personally I'm glad we've been able to blood so many kids, you can't buy that sort experience. At the very least it gives them an insight of what is required at AFL level and how far they have to go to become a permanent fixture in the team.

I watched the game with a Port supporter, and he summed it up pretty well. He commented on how we actually played some positive, exciting footy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We got back some of that run from the backlines- quick, forward movement rather than backwards and slow. It did put the Saints under some pressure when we did it, and they are no defensive slouches. Ran out of puff in the last, which was dissapointing but in the context of our season, the game was a step forward if only a baby one.

I tell you what, and i didnt write this on Saturday night as i reckon 90% of what i was going to write wouldve been expletives. That being said i would like to thank the umpires for ruining AFL football for me, as many people have said its almost like they have become bigger than the game itself. Past players alive or dead must cringe every game they watch (thats if they havent given up on it already) what was once a tough hard game that REWARDED PLAYERS WHO WENT AFTER THE DAMN FOOTY. I mean come on this holding the ball rule is beyond a joke, how is it possible to penalise a player that puts his body over the ball and have 2 to 3 opposition players lying on top of him and pay a holding the ball against them. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET RID OF THE BALL. It goes against everything a player is taught, get in there and win the ball for your team. People say the interchange rotations are making the game quicker, well is the holding the ball rule as it stands now also a speed up to the game, seeing as thay are promoting the player to slap the ball away from the contest instead of killing a contest.

There were so many decisions that were poorly missed for both teams, Petrenkos holding the ball that wasnt awarded, Dal Santo getting head high contact from his own player and getting a free kick, Dangerfield getting fallen on in the goal square, THREE OR FOUR CENTRE BOUNCES THAT FAVOURED STKILDA THAT ALL RESULTED IN GOALS. The goal that came off the goal umpires leg and was called play on. I could go on but i have already wasted the time for whoever has read this. Thanks Jeff Geischen im going back to the SANFL where the game is in alot better state

Agree 110%! The holding the ball rule is a joke! Multiple times on saturday night a crows player chased down a saints player tackling them with the player not disposing of the ball correctly by hand or foot, the umpire calls play on!! Then a Crows player put his head over the ball, wins the contested ball and gets jumped on by 3 saints players with no prior opportunity and gets called holding the ball! The rule is a Joke! You teach young players to dive on the ball and put there body on the line for there team, then they watch AFL and think twice about going in and getting the ball as they think they might get caught holding the ball, what are the AFL doing to this game!!
