Bit disappointed with that, it was the safe move.
I would have gone out on a limb and looked at more long term and gone with Joel Selwood.
Ahh well, I'm sure we'll be competitive again in 2010. ;)

Not dissapionting IMO.
Linga the Ranga deserves it. Geelong thru & thru. Not Many clubs can boast a home grown captain nowadays.
Just hope it does not affect his game.
I would have loved Scarlo up there too. Not since Mick Martyn has a full back been the heartbeat of a side.
Mind you i love every bloke in the blue & white hoops

Oh, Im not disappointed with the fact its Lingy and I agree he deserves it.
I just wanted something a bit out of left field and with Lingy turning 29 next month he's not going to be the answer long term.

We don't need a long term skipper with the squad at it's current state of development. When guys like Scarlo, Milburn, Otto and Mooney go then it's time for Selwood. Selwood has already been elevated to the leadership group and is the logical successor to Ling.

I don't see a reason why any Cat fan would be disappointed by the decision to elevate the Cling thing to the top job.

Im not disappointed Lingy got it, just disappointed someone else didn't.
I've always been a keen supporter of very longterm captains be they at Geelong, North or any other club, just my view.
But you do make good points about our window closing and Lingy being around for that period.

Joel may well be with the Gold Coast next year along with Ablett.

As might Luke Hodge, the Gingerbread man and the tooth fairy. Joel and Gazza aren't going anywhere.

Even they would be pushing the salary cap to get Selwood and Ablett to leave Geelong and head up to the gold coast.

If ablett is offered the rumoured figure then Selwood would also be under that but not by a huge amount.
What are you going to pay the other young guns in 3 - 4 years when they are pumping along?

Well he has been Captain of the Ugly 18 for some time so his rise to the Catters coin tosser* was only to be expected.

Reckon Ablett will go, the lure of large sums of money and his brother will be too strong.
