Re-makes and comic strip adaptations seem to be the easiest to blockbuster-ise ... It shouldn't be forgotten the evolution of technology (plus of course the highest priority of $ generation) plays a massive part in that

Absolutely you're right re special effects opening up lots of possibilities to re-do old sci-fi and fantasy movies. I'd be keen to see what they do with Escape from New York, for example. Clash of the Titans should be great with modern effects. But Revenge of the Nerds?

Don't get me wrong I love a good super-hero movie and I thought King Kong was pretty good. The new Battlestar Galactica on TV is fantastic IMO. I just think they have got a bit lazy when it comes to new ideas and the re-makes seem to be getting out of hand.

No question bud they've gotten lazy, sadly the market has allowed for that to happen ... I dont know if it's just my lack of awareness these days, but there used to be a great Indy scene in the movies that seems as though it's been slowly eaten away (what happened to movies like Gross Point Blank or Being John Malkovich??).

Perhaps accessibility of movies plays a fair part in that too ... Something like Transformers and the like is probably worth seeing at the cinema's where all the whizz bang effects can be experienced best.

A modern day equivalent to say, a movie like "As Good As It Gets" whilst still being well regarded, probably get's seen 9 times out of 10 at home

Sorry if this disappoints you but the BBC are doing a remake at the moment into 2 x 2 hours episodes for TV

The BBC already did a TV-serial of Triffids back in the late 70s.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing a proper feature film made. The original movie was so far divorced from the plot of the book it was almost comical.

Wow, that's incredible, I was just about to mention Day of the Triffids. I often mention to Mrs ZZ I'd love to see that remade (remember the BBC version from school). You see it ripped off all the time, eg 28 Days Later. I'd also like to see another John Wyndham novel 'The Chrysalids' made into a film - that would be awesome!

Have heard talk about a remake of "BULLITT" with Brad Pitt in the lead role.
Heard the leak about 3 months ago.

Would be hard to do an update.

My favourite all time movie and actor

R.I.P. Terence Steven McQueen
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

It might work as long as they don't try to make an exact copy.

I was dreading the Bronson/Russo remake of The Thomas Crown Affair but actually thought it was pretty good.
