Clubs don't really get a choice anyway. It seems like most of the time they are told who to take. It is certainly not an open market.

And just in case anyone else out there struggles to read on their phones first thing in the morning. This topic is about the Mini Draft, not the Minda Raft.

As you would know the AFL clubs always have a say. It's a not a case of here a list of players, now pick one. The AFL clubs for instance wouldn't want two of their ruckman at the one club if they can avoid it. They also might try to group players together.

I don't think West have ever been told who to take, ca.

I obviously could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

I take your point about 2 ruckmen, although that's an unlikely scenario?

Have you got knowledge of this happening because I've never heard it even suggested and would be surprised if it were true.

So why do players drafted by the AFL clubs change SANFL clubs on a regular basis? If they went to the AFL clubs preferred destination then this would not occur.

I find it hard to believe the AFL clubs could/would have any say in it.

The fact that players can and do change SANFL clubs makes a mockery of the minidraft. The AFL clubs might not get to determine how players are initially allocated but under current rules they sure as hell can influence how long players remain at that club.

Obviously coaches and clubs changes over years. That's football. It's the AFL they have influence over everything.

With the investment in these players your living in fantasy land if you think they are not going to try and get what is best for their players.

"...going to try and get what is best for...." their investments is one thing, manipulating the player allocations is another.

A player picked in the mini draft just rocks up to an SANFL game and plays. Maybe have the odd training run during the year with his allocated SANFL club, but the rest of the time is spent at the Crows or Power concentration camps.

Not sure if he was going to Norwood. But the crows did ask if he had to go in the mini draft. I think this Norwood business was only mentioned by News Limited journalists.....

CA, what a load of rubbish..The mini draft is open for all clubs to choose whoever they want. Crows/Power have no say - the same as when SANFL coaches refuse to pick players in the seniors if their form doesn't warrant selection. SANFL clubs have a bit more grunt than you think with Crows/Power and SANFL coaches have no intention of playing players in spots their AFL team would like them to play.
