what about if 40 tackles are laid that are over the shoulder.
you cant put a figure on how many or how little frees should be paid in a game.
umpiring was good yesterday

There was a comical part in the last 1/4 where one umpire thought it was a good idea to start paying some dodgy 25's to Norwood in their defence, but the umpire at the other end sure as hell wasn't going to give Norwood a free in their forward lines, eg Rowe in a marking contest, Phillips being held from behind in a "shepherd". It was like these umpires were playing back-and-forths between themselves.

I was saying 30 as a general rule from th 25 years of watching as many games of footy that i can every weekend. Sometimes it might be slightly over and sometimes it might be slighly under.
Yesterdays game was well umpired because they didn't pay the soft over the shoulder frees and therefore only 27 frees were paid.

The worst one was the 25m paid to Norwood AFTER the umpire called play on. Umpires umpiring in finals should not be making those errors simple as that.

This included two real softies. One to McKenzie to give Centrals its first goal then another similar rucking infringement at the other end against Sutherland.
Evened up in the end but sheesh, real soft stuff.
Otherwise, I agree, the umps paid the frees that were there and weren't sucked in by acting.

I was pretty peeved at the time about that one, but you could see Brady clearly pulling Buckets guernsey, so that's there

SANFL umpires are extremely lenient when it comes to deliberate out of bounds though - normally only 1-2 are paid in an entire season!
