Round 12 - Sturt v Norwood @ Unley 2.10pm Sun 13/6/10

Postby GWW » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:15 pm

On recent form, Norwood would appear to be a strong favourite for this game. I think the bye might have come at the right time for Double Blues, however, and i think they can take it up the Redlegs for 3 quarters.

I'll tip Norwood by 23 points.

I agree Norwood are strong favourites for this game however if the DB's do manage to take it up to the Legs' for three quarters then I would fancy Sturt to get over the line, as despite their ordinary year thus far, they (along with Port) are just about the best last quarter side in the competition....

Sturt have lost the majority of their five games with one deplorable quarter. Play four quarters of desperate footy and they are a chance at home to knock off the hottest side in the SANFL. It should be a ripper.

Luke Norman and a bunch of about a dozen senior Sturt players were sitting up in the stands as interested onlookers at the Parade yesterday.

They would have been impressed with what they saw from their opposition in this game, the Redlegs, and realise they'll be in for a tough one.

In my opinion this game is ideal for Sturt and the fact there were a number of players at yesterday's game says to me the boys are well aware of how big this contest is.

A line has been drawn in the sand and it's now up to the group to come out and hit Norwood with everything they've got.

You think the players went along voluntarily???

Speaking to a Port Magpies player who was at Propsect on Saturday I can tel you despite whatever spin coaches put on it, he was mightly pissed off that he had to spend, at his coaches direction, his one day off for the weekend watching North vs. South. He was probably even more pissed off at the end of the match having been subjected to one of the worst games of football for many a day!

Norwood is, by any objective standard, one of the best teams going around at the moment.

This implies that Sturt should win in a canter.

HOMEWORK OVERDOSE

WAGS everywhere will be hunting Port coach Tony Bamford for starting this ``homework'' craze.

For those who didn't read about it, Bamford sent his players to watch Sturt the week before the Magpies played them in round nine to take notes on their prospective opponents.

The move seemed to work wonders with the Pies winning just their second game of the season at Unley the next week.

Port's players were at it again on Saturday, watching South Adelaide (who they face this weekend) against North Adelaide.

And it appears as though the method is catching on.

Sturt's players were out in force on Sunday to watch the Redlegs ahead of their game this Sunday.

``It's fairly demanding. There goes your weekend,'' (Brett) Zorzi (Norwood) said.

``Your missus wouldn't be too happy because they pencil in byes and days off.

``It's a good idea though, they see firsthand who they're most likely going to play on, how they go about their footy and it can only really be a positive. The more information you've got on your opposition the better.''

I know Norwood didn't go to Elizabeth to see Eagles vs Central when they had the bye (despite the fact we played them the following 2 weeks), because many players go home (interstate) or spend time with their families on bye weekends. They even cut back on training on the weekend to give the players that time.

Ditto for North players although I think the majority of our players would be too scared to watch a game with two other sides for fear of exposing what we can't do! LOL

The three playing leaders (C, VC & DVC) were asked to attend by the coach. The fact there were up to a dozen senior players seen in the stand at The Parade suggests the players are taking some ownership of the situation and were there of their own accord, which I think is a positive thing.

I feel very encouraged by it and believe we will see a response this Sunday at Unley.

Fair call MST however I bet if the Capt / VC and DVC were not required to attend, the others wouldn't have bothered either and who can blame them.

A must win game for the Double Blues. Norwood are in outstanding form.

Sturt are coming off the bye and after Norwood's hard game on Sunday should be fresher. A toss of the coin...Sturt by 13 points.

This is going to be a very hard game for Sturt to win, forcast is for a few showers and the ground will be very soft under foot after the recent rain. Norwood seem to play well in the wet so Sturt will need to be hard at the ball and cut down on the fancy over posessing. It's about time the club got it's act together and make a serious push for finals footy.
I share a house with a mate who is a Norwood supporter and it's getting a bit hard to take much more of this gloating that lacks integrity, he's been to 1 game this year, about 5 in the last 5 years and hasn't been a member for god knows how long.

I honestly give Sturt a real chance of winning this one. They are a much better teaam than what they have shown in recent weeks. Additionally, most teams that beat Central have a letdown the following week (example: Sturt earlier this year). Whether Norwood can get themselves up for this one will be a real test of their character.
In what most would see as an upset, I see Sturt getting up by 17 points.
Cheers.
