SANFL is a great opportunity for AFL ambitious players, but I don't think North or Norwood can take all the credit for developing players like Currie and Cachia. Certainly not worth an extra mini draft pick, which isn't much of a reward anyway. ;)

Did North and Norwood give these players a chance and a competition that allowed them to improve and be drafted ?
Probably, reluctantly agree with you on the last point though .... first time for everything I guess.

North probably don't rely on it as much, but there was a time (and I would imagine it's still the case) where the transfer fee's we pick up for drafted players was pretty important to us, which is the reward.

I don't want my club to rely on Mini-Draft players, would much prefer to see us replace drafted players with ex-Norwood boys falling out of the system, quality recruits, our kids coming through our system we believe are good enough to survive at SANFL league level.

Agree JK. Would hate to end up like Sturt atm, with too many fringe AFL listed players lining up for you team each week.

If as we sorta think will happen, the local AFL clubs field their own reserves in 2014, that's about 14 decent players Sturt will lose in one hit .. Granted not all play at the same time but I'd imagine last year they regularly had 4-6 most weekends.

I guess that's offset a bit by the numbers their opponents would also lose, but for a club trying to recover, that's a fair hit.

Yep Sturt would be by far the worse hit with a AFL reserves sides.

Centrals would barely be affected, last year we had Symes (who now is a dog full time) other than that we only would have lost guys like Henderson who came in occasionally.

Well said said Jim05 agree 100% about time the Souths of this world got themself off the floor and not wait for others to do it for them.
Just watch how Eagles and Centrals react to last year's poor season. You can bet your arse they won't be waiting around for someone to help them !!!!!!!!!!

12 plus solid years of football by Centrals is not best descibed as a freak of nature. Call it what it is. The greatest period of domination by a club. They deserve the credit.

In no way are South waiting for others to do it for them (whatever that is).

Happy to discuss.

Doesn't mean much. Port only have 39 on their list. So they can upgrade a player as early as round 1 without a LTI

No worries, joker, didn't realise that. Still reckon we'll see a fair bit of him at the Eagles.

Coarse he will play plenty at the Eagles unless Port are shocking and cop many injuries.
State league players usually don't cut it after a few games, that's just the way it goes.
But he's a nice fit with us though!
Heath will probably slot into defence to take up McKenzie's spot :)

There was a time when North relied heavily on transfer fees to keep afloat. In fact it wasn't just AFL fees but also to other SANFL clubs. I heard a story that Danny Morton was reluctantly sold to Norwood to keep North afloat.

Do North and Norwood get a transfer fee for Currie and Cachia? In both cases the players think that the club has improved them markedly and I believe both have told their respective playing groups that they would not have received this chance without the help of the club and their teammates.

Mitchell appears to be exactly what the Eagles need.

Read my previous comment? He can be upgraded at any time from
Now on as port don't have the full list of forty

Pfeiffer would be the one to get upgraded at the start of the season. Mitchell would be our r11 upgrade
