And I think it would be fair to say Roy Laird has the league coaching role at Central for as long as he wants it. I think getting Platten on board is more for being able to pass on his experience and wisdom to some of the youngsters coming through. Of course as d4eva said, Laird would not have wanted him if he didn't see him adding value in some way.

The article in the 'Tiser had an emphasis on the fact Platts will be working with some of the underage players as well as someone like new recruit James Boyd. I know John didn't have a great tenure when coaching Freeling and I'd suggest he is doing it for the love of the club and to give something back to the place that gave him his start.

I'd be interested to see if Platts is an addition to the coaching panle or if he is replacing someone who is moving on. I hope it is not Gavin Chaplin or Neil McGoran, they have both been brilliant for the club and Roy in particular. I'd suggest Jeff Brown is coaching the reserves again and will still be there so it might be one of Nathan Steinberner or Luke McCabe, possibly Luke who has a farm at Hamley Bridge so may be putting more time into that ?

I still dont understand how neil McGowran has lasted so long in the coaching arena at centrals.

From my experiences playing under him, he had no idea! he must move the magnets well tho ;)

Silver or wooden? Its harder to amalgamate the two unlike other things in life. Remember, finishing last means that you're club stayed and competed.

Have a go at holden by all means .BUT

Another couple of good pick ups by Westies, Jarrod Silvester can apparently play and will be one of the best full backs in the comp, he had plenty of VFL clubs chasing him, Westies on paper are starting to look the goods, Will be land of the Giants down at Westies.

Jonathon Giles has competition from 2 yes just 2 other players in the whole club and he leaves. Goodbye soft c**k, we don't need players like him who spit it when they are expected to work harder for their spot in the team.

Thought he could of went on and became a very handy player for many years at the dogs but thats a real piss poor attitude, imagine how he would go as a midfielder and had competition from 10 other players.

Exactly the same can be said for Hinge, be very interesting to see how these blokes go in a new environment with the pressure they have put on themselves....

Almost exactly my thoughts when I read whufc's post. Though in Hinge's case he would have had less than 2 competitors for a league spot.

Yeah totally agree the Hinge move is just as strange and surprising as Giles leaving, 2 really weird decisions imho, but fair play to Sturt they must be doing something right to lure these blokes down there, Sturt would have paid close to $75000 in transfer fees this off season?
