No Drebin,

Not totally responsible ... as per my post there are numerous reasons for crowd changes.

But yes South can take a reasonable amount of credit that their home games crowds are growing (this is not a one off game, its sustained growth over four years) and they can take the vast majority of credit for growth in memberships.

Your argument was that the main reason ( "more a reflection" ) for the changes is more visiting supporters turning up and thus credit to South is minimal to nil. I think that is wrong.

Just so we are clear Drebin, to what extent do you think a SANFL club (south, north, eagles or any other) is responsible for it's home match crowd numbers?

What was it, 2273 saw the South/Eagles match at Noarlunga this year? Since we have no fans, where did the crowd come from? That's right. South fans. That's where the figure came from.

One for Spelly ... when was the last time Port had only 4 wins in a season (no, they won't beat Sturt next week)?

*Port fan defending South? *

Speaking of due credit, more than 24 hours and 3 pages in, it seems the only thing missing from this thread is a Port fan's honest appraisal of yesterday's match. Just a neutral observation, I'm not having a dig at anyone in particular.

Booney, seeing as you've (seemingly) been the only Port fan that's made the effort to post on this thread, perhaps you could do us the honour? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd appreciate an honest insight.

Cheers.

It was only a 17 round season then. Their four wins consisted of South (twice), Glenelg and West Torrens. Incidentally the Round 13 win against Torrens was by 14 points. They met only 4 rounds later in the last round, and Port suffered the biggest loss in their history to that date (111 points). That record stood for 34 years.

Its a great effort and great to see for the comp that Souths crowds are on the up, corwds below 2000 do nothing for the promotion of the league

Now if we can just get West to get over 2000 things will be looking good....

With some more improvement in the on field performances i think their will be some more come out the woodwork. Hopefully the club is going to do plenty over the summer to ensure our attendances are bigger next year.

Very much a sign of the times down at Alberton. With Tim moving on and the club/players knowing as much some weeks ago I understand even training sessions have been lack lustre and that showed on Sunday.

We just appeared to give up. The $$ situation is also dire down there and this summer might be make or break for the Magpies.

Will do a more comprehensive match review later.

All clubs are responsible for tyring to ensure the best home match crowd numbers and promoting it's product but the same reasoning could be to get clubs to pronmote their own supporters to travel to away games but that clearly depends upon form and weather in the main.

Re your post, you did point out the variables / contributing factors as to why numbers are up and down each year. I didn't say at any point that South had not had any impact on the increase in their home match attendances but I will still stick by my comments that the visiting teams to Noarlunga draw more than the home team in most instances and that was my original point which got lost when Booney got all high and mighty and tried to infer my post was a put down on South.

No one left on the bench definitely didn't help. I went out at 3/4 time, Tim said all the right things but I could see it in his face that the fire was out, and it showed.
