I thought my club was the only one that disrespected members, but it seems other clubs are just as good at it. For shame...

The bottom line is most members don't care, I see it every year at the AGMs, people don't like what they hear but say nothing.

David Burtenshaw said we don't represent the SANFL public, he is probably right, we are old school, everyone else is AFL centric and frankly, can't be bothered criticising their club for poor decisions.

Everyone deserted the league in 1991, they're just doing it again.

Absolute garbage summary. 30k at last years GF hello!!!

This league is fine!!! We have grown while the two afl clubs have had supporters leave in droves.

League died in 91. Maybe for you but not for 30% of footy fans in this state.

Not sure if this has been mentioned:

In Perth, West Coast and Fremantle hired accountants to justify the economic benefit of the Eagles and Dockers in the WAFL league series.

In Adelaide, Crows chairman Rob Chapman admits his much-quoted figure of 4000 fans filing through turnstiles around suburbia to watch the "Ravens" in the SANFL ius a guesstimate.

The Norwood Football Club - the most outspoken critic of AFL reserves teams in the SANFL league competition - wants Chapman to underwrite that prediction.

Those 4000 are supposed to generate $40,000 in revenue at the gates, bars and concession stands.

If an SANFL club hosts the "Ravens" and the takings are less than $40,000, the Redlegs argue Chapman's accountants at West Lakes should write a cheque.

This case could be a tough sell for Norwood to make to the SA Football Commission.

now that the crows and power will get their reserves sides - well the crows will be for sure

I hope that they go through undefeated, I hope that they win every game including the Grand final by 45 goals

I hope that crowds are around the 400 mark

I hope delisted AFL players stay in VFL or other state league comps and don't come to SA

Credit where it's due. Well done to Rucci for mentioning what we've being pointing out on these 203 pages. Hopefully he can continue to raise some of the concerns we've posted, not just this late "one off". He should have changed the word guesstimate to lie, as we all know it to be.

Mate, I think you're arguing with me mistakenly. I don't think the league died in 1991, what I was meaning was heaps of fans deserted the league in 1991 to follow the crows, we all know that, now I think members are effectively deserting their teams again by not standing up to boards.

Crowds have been steady for ten years, I know that, its been great.

What an idiotic post.

What supporter goes and watches the left overs from the first team in a stand alone fixture? Very few

Stand alone SANFL reserves fixtures get the families of the players, their team-mates and a couple of friends to watch them play so how can this Team get regular supporters to watch them?

Oh really? Just like it has in every other competition that reserves sides have been introduced into? I suppose all those fans who are dropping off the Crows with their rapidly falling attendances are all of a sudden going to get excited about watching the reserves side play at Elizabeth or Noarlunga? Yep sound realistic to me.

The average crows side will be made up of players in the following categories

Category A- aging players who are dropped and are trying to get back into the AFL team (Porplyzia, Callinan etc)
Category B- guys who are generally the fan’s whipping boys when they’re in the AFL team. The yo-yo men (Martin, Jaensch, Tambling, McKernan etc)
Category C- guys who haven’t made the level yet and perhaps never will (McIntrye, Ellis-Yolman, Dowdell etc)
Category D- guys with some potential, who may have played the odd AFL game (Hartigan, Shaw etc)
Category E- Young blokes not up to SANFL league level yet, unknown to the average footy follower (Siggins, Atkins, Orval etc)
Category F- A genuinely good player coming back from injury (Walker etc)
Category G- Early draft pick who will play a few games in the SANFL before making AFL debut (Crouch etc)
Category H- Unknown top ups not up to league standard.

Categories F and G will hold some appeal to the average supporter (but these players will only be in the team for a short while) and to a lesser extent A and D. The rest..meh. Early on in the season they will pull some semi-respectable crowds. The novelty will be there, the weather will be good, a few night games at Parade or the Bay will be scheduled by the SANFL to help attendances in an attempt to justify their inclusion. Then reality will hit home.
