Other interesting questions might be the state of the relationship between the two heads of the organisations involved and the subsequent impact on the investigation and fine, the exact nature of the conversations between the two ex-cricket administrators that lead to the charges being laid and, as JK pointed out, why the NFC have been sanctioned more severely for a lesser offence than the WAFC.

Could it be because Norwoods breach was deemed to be intentional and the fact they denied and tried to hide the error.

I guess that could always be a reason, although In the incorrect paperwork instance I don't believe it was hidden, more that the club didn't realize there was an issue with it.

Thinking about it further I would guess the SANFL have marked us that bit harder because we ****** up 3 times as opposed to Wests once maybe?

I've just heard that the SANFL had the information since March LAST year and Chandler forwarded to the investigator without approaching anyone at Norwood. Poor form SANFL if that is the case.

The anti-Norwood brigade will skip over that one lol

Not sure if any truth to it but I heard from another supporter today that one of the charges against was due to the fact that NFC paid for airfares for some of our interstate recruits to head home to visit family at times during the year.
From what he mentioned it seems like we paid for 3 or 4 return flight to Melbourne tickets and didnt disclose this to the league.

Most clubs do the opposite - pay the families to fly over to Adelaide to see their sons! Not much the League can do about that!

This seems to summarise the situation fairly: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 6608804633
While Norwood did not breach the $360,000 salary cap last year, it failed to provide appropriate documentation in relation to player payments.
The breach was uncovered by the SANFL's independent salary cap investigative committee and the Redlegs fronted the commission on March 25.
"Regulation breaches were identified during the 2012 season where benefits were provided without the necessary documentation to justify them," SANFL general manager Chris Davies said.

It was obviously careless, but hardly sounds like some big conspiracy.

How is that salary .... flying someone home or their family here ? It's just an expense not a salary.
Hang on I saw Norwood giving their players a meal after the game last year .... several times. Should we declare that ?
Sadly a Mickey Mouse unprofessional bunch of idiots has the abused power of fining clubs real money.
Do they want Norwood to pay directly into the Port Power account ?

If clubs choose to spend their own funds on travel for families I cannot possibly see how that could be included in the cap or as "additional payments"? That would be like telling clubs they can't spend their own money on facilities upgrades etc. Different if clubs are providing addtional benefits to palyers directly outside what is in contracts!

Yes I believe everything must be jotted down.
I think things like sponsors giving the players use of vehicles must be included.
I think the only way around it is if fans personally stuff some money in players pockets after the game like happens at country level

I didn't have a problem with Chandler until now if that is true. Surely the SANFL should be trying to help Clubs get under their cap not just try and get them?

Too hard too admit your club screwed up? Of course paying for flights for player vacations is part of the salary cap.

If clubs are open and honest, then yes. If they are deceitful and get caught, be big boys and cop it on the chin.

Chris Dittmar said on radio Norwood had breached the salary cap , not regulations. Clear difference between the two. I really feel for the supporters of other clubs that heard this was a huge and embarrassing story on Norwood, you must be feeling let down and hung out to dry! Can I suggest you perhaps ask Norwood supporters in the first place to separate fact from ego driven innuendo? Just a serious question, because if Norwood had breached the cap, I for one would have been angry and disappointed.
