Interesting that you want Kirkwood out after playing league footy for the last month.

You havent mentioned Jamie Solly as an in, and i think he is a big chance to be added this week. Kicked 6.3 last week and he is probably the best marking marking forward in the U18 local comp.

Dale Armstrong should definately be in the side.

What about Jake von Bertouch from the Eagles? He was outstanding in the game against West. Has his form generally been that good?

Couldn't agree more on Evans, great hard nut at the packs. Scott-Collings would have relished the chance to use that raking accurate kick, not so sure on Lane though, despite playing League footy this year. Didn't think the side they ran out with was that poor really, and thought that would have been a bit harsh on both Kirkwood and Wilson to leave them out. Also tend to think that Sticks is in a much better position than most of us to know who is and isn't suitable for selection, given how much he sees of the competition.

No game next weekend - players go back and train and play with their local clubs/colleges.
Next game is Friday week 26 June in Melbourne V NSW/ACT at Princes Park (Visy Park) and they then stay on there until their final game of the Carnival against Vic Metro the following Wednesday 1 July at Etihad - Swine flu permitting.

So despite the talk that we have numerous top line draftees in SA this year, we send a bunch of players over who are not playing against older bodies and get rolled... R&B, Tas, game on fellas...

you seem to have gone pretty quiet since this absurd statement smac - funny how a few wins (including a great one today) shuts up the cheap shots from critics like you who don't know what they are talking about.

And of course the U/19s footy that Trengrove, Carey, Giddings and Scott-Collins played last year had no impact on their development compared to 8 weeks of U/18s in 2009....

As I said previously the impact on the elite boys will be negligible it is the next teir of boys that the impact will be felt - the late developers who need that extra year in the club setting.

Trengove has only played 2 games of U19 in his life, Carey 5 and Giddings has never ever played U19s. Shallow argument.

U/17s...

The fact they have also changed the actual structure of the 18s program - the players come together earlier and develop teams systems has nothing to do with it either hey, ML....

The squad started playing in early May - previously it wasn't until the selection of the team in mid to late May following a selection trial prior to an AFL game that the actual squad started working together...

The squad has previously trained in January together, albeit a squad of about 45.

Giddings couldn't get a game of U/17's a few years ago and was stuck playing at Henley in their U/16's. Now he is playing in the state u/18 team, the concept seems to have worked well for him ;)

I am aware the squad has trained previously early but his year the program has changed so they are playing more lead up games and all eight national cahmpionship teams are in the same pool. So far they have beaten two old Div 2 teams NT and QLD - so they should've. Trust me having been involved with the NT Thunder program if they culdn't beat them big questions need to have been asked. The win yesterday was excellent and all need to be congratulated on that. Mind you they have beaten VIC Country in the past recently it is just VIC metro and WA they have had trouble with.

Did Giddlings make the Bays 17s team last year Wyc.... ;)

As I said on page one this change needs to be looked at over the whole year and not just by the 18s results. In fact from a purely scientific point of view they fact that two variables have changed the nature of the elite player program and the junior compettion it will be impossible to say which has been the catalyst for any improvement in the 18s result and teh number of kids that we get drafted - if they occur.

Could in the end come down to the old development cycle in that this year we just have a good bunch of talented kids that enable to do well, so any changes are moot points.
