Hitting someone in the crowd ?

Sturt needed a spark
The season on the line
Josh Cubillo got a centre break clearance, he burst out and kicked it to half forward
Jeremy Johncock was seemingly out of position
The ball carried to him, he stuck out one hand, and took a fantastic mark, as he does more often than most
Jeremy slotted thru a booming drop punt for a goal
This was the start of 3 goals in a bout 2-3 minutes, and ST led by 3 points
Had ST won this game that might have been the turning point of this match

Ah Mal IF is a very big word in footy

What happened next could be described as either inspirational or just damn lucky
Luke Thompson running Forward from CHB dodges 1 tackle and slots a goal from 50.
Eagles regain the lead never headed again !!!

all of 30seconds after Johncocks goal!!

And sturts Record at the FORTRESS is maintained !!!

I think he played better after he broke it  .
And he forced himself into the midfield and made Luke Powell go onto the wing!!!

I think it's intriguing to see the differing views on who was our best. Scott Walsh in the Sunday Mail was of the opinion that Cica was no.1. He did have 24 possessions, and the photo depicts one of his equal match high 6 tackles (with Jade Sheedy). I thought Lewis stood out more for mine, and didn't have our no.51 in my top 5. Others had Giuffreda as best, but Walsh didn't even put him in the best. Peter Argent had Scott Lewis as best player, like me; then Mark McKenzie.

One other thing to comment on, I think a huge factor as to why Sturt did not win was Brant Chambers. It is such a huge asset to have a genuine champion for a full-forward, but you need an adequate cover for someone who is such a focal point. Out of anyone to lose on the ground for either side, IMO he is the biggest loss to sustain. We do not have such a focal point like Chambers. You may argue that Scott Welsh is such a player, but Grocke, Salter, Schulz and Day when any combination of them are in the side, they can capably share the load with him.

that is a good point that, when you have a focal point you go to him and when he is not there you seem to be a bit lost
with the Eagles who did not have that focal point, they are probably more used to sharing it around and looking for other options

Agree. To have Day step up with three goals was great for the Eagles.
But WTF were/are Johncock and Herring doing? Both have played enough league footy (and Norman coached enough) to have one of these step up at the goal square when required.

Rimington got the three goals. ;) He seemed to fall out of form or something in the first half of the season, but the last two weeks has elevated him back to where he was late last season.

It is a pity this game was not played at Thebarton. Would have drawn a good crowd there.

Mate, Thebby has to be GONE now!

I too miss 'the old girl' but we have been merged now for 20 yrs!!!
Woodville is our home - we MUST bury past biases.

2 Flags since the merger - we are the Woodville West Torrens FC now, based @ Woodville Oval.

Let it go :)

Actually we have FOCAL POINTS up forward when they aren't playing in the afl. That seems to be 1 week AFL 1 week SANFL if your a power player .
Other than that we have a hard leading HF line .
Sturt and a few other teams make the Eagles share the ball around with their pressure and or flooding .

You are right, but once lights become available (if, the key word) at Thebarton, we should look at a couple of matches there like was supposed to happen this year. The success of Wests' lights shows that must be the go in that scenario. Because Woodville Oval is off limits as far as possible night matches go.

Thebby is a wasted exercise.

Much rather go to Adelaide Oval.

Night games only need to be played there.
There is no need for our club to host night games anyway.

If Norwood, Elizabeth, Richmond & Adelaide have lights - that's enuf IMO.
Play our home games Saturday Afternoon - EVERY Week regardless of Cows or PAPs.

We are not going to get any more there & the costs involved in going to Thebby for 2 or 3 games is pointless IMO

Thanks Spelly, was just going by the scores at the start of this thread. Didn't think Day kicked that many, but Even so, thought he was reasonable for us on the weekend.
