Home matches are 30kms away, not 800kms away.

I was born and raised in a house of Norwood fanatics and was a willing contributor by the age of 7 or 8.
Would have eaten glass to run onto the field at Norwood Oval but sadly my talents were not a match for my desire.
The VFL was always just a side interest to me although I did like to watch the replays following Melbourne ( I wonder why ? ).
When the AFL was born with the advent of the Crows I was a little more interested but it did not take long for my interest to level off.
To me there is not the passion born of a life long dedication to a club you grew up with, fortunes good or bad.
Slowly the AFL has degenerated into a basketball like game with little full bore body contact like we love to see. The AFL is hard sure but not the real man's game like John Wynne, Wayne Phylis, Neil Kerley and Co. played.
When I turn on the TV and see the keep possesion, kick back and across the ground .... wind the clock down style. Well for me the channell is changed or I go and read a book.
I love the hard body contact and the genuine passion of the players representing the club I love in the SANFL. After the game we can have a drink and be hands on with the players and staff and share our genuine passion with other supporters.
If the SANFL died my love of football would die with it ..... something the corporates of the AFL can never understand. No grass roots not football PERIOD !!!!!!!!

Weston. It's my footy League
Gibbs. It's what I grew up with
Snout. I see real contests - one on one footy
Kernas. Players are given an opportunity to dispose of the footy if tackled
Super. My mates go there
Farqs. Glenelg football club is the one footy club I truly love
Snooky. the people who go to the SANFL are genuine footy lovers not theatre goers - Melbourne footy is different though
Fidgey. Cheaper Beers
Cranny. Atmosphere
Bones. Convenience of getting to the grounds
Braddles. It sh!ts me to tears when we lose
Cornesy. The feeling of MY team winning is the best feeling in the world.

If I wanted to see wanna be rock stars or circus performers well that's the afl ....

Sanfl - passion , real , real supporters who seem to have some footy knowledge, sense of community , can talk to the players who most seem very down to earth .

It's just real and does not have the BS and falseness of the afl .....

I could keep going on .... But blue and white is in my blood and always will be :)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

$20+ and byo chair for a trial game in Victor Habour sums it up for me at the moment. What a crock of crap!

Great post, and probably sums it it for many posters on here. Just insert the name of your own team/oval . The part about the VFL and the Crows is spot on.

It is just such a major part of our lives.
Passed on from my grandfather to my old man to me and now on to my kids. The Bay Oval feels like home to our family.

Birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, reunions etc etc are all planned AROUND Glenelg games. God help Grandmothers and great aunts who organise an 80th birthday on match day and shame on brothers or cousins that marry "outsiders" who don't follow the Black and Gold. It can take years for full acceptance in our clan.

Standing on the hill having a can, the banter, the unsanitised brand of footy. Thank god it's almost back. \m/

born and raised on the passion of the local football., raised as a passionate Sturt supporter. You can go and have a beer where you can drink it out of cans instead of plastic. most time the crowds are mixed with supporters instead of 90% Crows or 70% Power. for the price of $25 it gets you into the game, buys you a budget and feeds you the pie and coke, afl justs gets you into the game. supporters can go onto the ground at each break and have a kick or listen to the coaches talk, afl you have to wait until after the game and that is occassionally.

Woodville West Torrens are a South Australian team playing in a South Australian league. The Crows and Port are South Australian teams playing in a Victorian league. That about sums it up for me.

Others have explained in more eloquently but for me Footy is about passionately supporting your team and I simply was unable to transfer my passion from Centrals to the Crows when the opportunity presented itself. Furthermore I couldnt generate or manufacture the passion for the Crows- which is why I have only a limited interest in them, never attend their games and continue to support the Dogs every week.

I often wonder though....How many passionate SANFL supporters dropped their SANFL club to support the Crows when they came in?
