Would have eaten glass to run onto the field at Norwood Oval but sadly my talents were not a match for my desire.
The VFL was always just a side interest to me although I did like to watch the replays following Melbourne ( I wonder why ? ).
When the AFL was born with the advent of the Crows I was a little more interested but it did not take long for my interest to level off.
To me there is not the passion born of a life long dedication to a club you grew up with, fortunes good or bad.
Slowly the AFL has degenerated into a basketball like game with little full bore body contact like we love to see. The AFL is hard sure but not the real man's game like John Wynne, Wayne Phylis, Neil Kerley and Co. played.
When I turn on the TV and see the keep possesion, kick back and across the ground .... wind the clock down style. Well for me the channell is changed or I go and read a book.
I love the hard body contact and the genuine passion of the players representing the club I love in the SANFL. After the game we can have a drink and be hands on with the players and staff and share our genuine passion with other supporters.
If the SANFL died my love of football would die with it ..... something the corporates of the AFL can never understand. No grass roots not football PERIOD !!!!!!!!
