Rd 2 2007 Central v South & live scores

Postby Wedgie » Thu Apr 12, 2007 6:47 pm

From the CDFC:

CENTRAL DISTRICT vs South Adelaide
Hamra Homes Oval, 2.00pm, Saturday 14th April 2007

Round Two sees South Adelaide make the water bag trip from Noarlunga to Hamra Homes Oval to battle it out with the Doggies this Saturday from 2.00pm.
Apparently there’s another game on at the same time in the Western suburbs. We would rather people spend $9 for a great afternoon of league football rather than $10 for a carpark. Centrals originally wanted to play Saturday night to avoid the clash but the SANFL schedule for a Saturday afternoon game to be broadcast on ABC television made that unlikely. We are, of course, grateful for the coverage afforded to us this weekend.
The good news is that Adrian Wilson is available to play this weekend after a visit to the SANFL tribunal. The bad news is that forward Justin Westhoff, who has been in great form, wasn’t so lucky with a 2 game suspension for striking. In comes Luke Cowan to bolster the forward lines while regular full forward Daniel Schell continues to enjoy his footy in defence.

League:
Full Forward: Matthew Slade Heath Lawry Leigh Westhoff
Half Forwards: James Gowans Luke Cowan Charles Slattery
Centre Line: Adam Switala Chris Gowans Elijah Ware
Half Backs: Paul Thomas Daniel Schell Brad Currie
Full Backs: Richard Cochrane Nathan Grima Adrian Wilson
Rucks: Jason Mackenzie Brad Symes Ian Callinan
Int: (from) Jonathon Giles, Daniel Havelberg, Chris Musolino, Scott Dutschke

Injuries:
Nathan Steinberner (shoulder) indefi nite
Alan Obst (thumb) 3 weeks
Chad O’Sullivan (groin) two weeks
Quinton Graham (shoulder) one week
Jeremy Aufderheide (knee) fi ve weeks

=D

I couldn't decide which one to go to - this or the Showdown - so I'm gonna be at home channel surfing instead. Would have loved for this to be Sat night, though.

Also, why is the Showdown on Saturday afternoon??! That's probably the worst timeslot for this type of game out of the entire weekend.

Good to see Cowans back and Musolino's preseason form was excellent

Currie would be in doubt with a thigh injury.

Danger game for the dogs with so many injuries. Round two hasnt been kind in recent years.

Mark Ducker

Mate, if this is the side that runs out on Saturday, it is still a very very good side.
Even if the Dogs had a full list to pick from, the issue is 30 does not go in to 21, so with our depth this year, good players wil miss out every week.
I can't see South getting over the top of us, footy is won in the midfield, it is here our boys will keep supplying the forwards all day, and with forward options such as Lawry, Westhoff, Cowan and Schell (if needed), too many big gums for south to contain

But you didn't even mention the Gowans Bros......

South have a habit of winning when they shouldn't, I reckon the $3.35 could still be small overs

I wont forget that game in a hurry :?

Been a long time since we won up there. I'd like to say it would be this week, but it is hard to see it happening. However I'm confident we'll put in a much better showing than last week.

Anybody know the ins/outs for south? I know Smith is out with work.

A couple of points. Have heard that Brad Currie will not be playing due to that quad strain and also heard the Kerl's ad for the games this weekend on the two knuckleheads show this evening saying the games is at 6:30pm. My program from the club shows 2pm and even Wedgie(with his precious hubcaps intact!) say it is a 2pm Game. So whom do we believe?

Tough game for the panthers but i expect them to be very competitive this week .... How did Prendergast go against the Eags?? He should be making a big impact this year and could be a Magarey chance ... Big call i know but the guy is the key possie size yet has the engine of a rover .. very hard to match up on

I'm always nervous playing South early in the season - they have a good record against us particularly at Noarlunga. But this game is at Elizabeth and the team looks good even with O'Sullivan still out and the harsh ruling from the tribunal this week. Hopefully we can have a win.
We used to be good :-(

Sorry to be a wet blanket again, but talking about recent GFs:

Centrals' losing GF margin average this decade: 61.5 pts
Eagles losing GF margin average this decade: 53.5 pts

Steinberner for the dogs and Sampson for the panthers are 2 of the hardest, most spirited tough guys to play for their respective clubs in recent years. Both of their efforts have been huge to play through their injuries. Boths blokes have incredible character and play the game the way it should be played. Well done lads.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.
