The scores were all over the place as we (nearly) all hit the wall with SuperCoach scoring this week. The big winner was Buddy Franklin who went to the top of the ladder with a comfortable win over the Honey Badgers. This ladder change was the direct result of one of the nailbiters this round. Poon Army saluted over the previous ladder leaders Benny Rolfs by eight points to consolidate the Army's top eight spot. The other close game was my REBCats who don't deserve to be in the eight up against Has Been who didn't deserve to be on the bottom. The result was a ten point win with Has Been scoring his worst score for the year but getting his first win.

A couple of teams had no problems scoring this week. Captain Who are back in town with a solid two week period which culminated in what could be a Hogg high 2143 which was more than enough to account for the Les' Men. Hondo wasn't too far behind with a solid 2139 which was more than enough to account for a luckless Richo who might have used all of his arse points winning last year's flag.

There were also a couple of spectacular wipeouts this week. It's not to often that Premier League coaches can't crack 1800 but we had two coaches do just that this week. Sharksta's Underdogs have a proud history but a 1798 put the Dogs on the bottom of the ladder after they were thumped by Delicious. The Q Man was scoring a treat in the pre-season and he gloomily said 'I never go this well this early' before predicting the fall that has now occurred. Q's 1778 was a wipeout of biblical proportions as he waited for the miracle that never came. To make it worse, Ecky took the piss by scoring over 2000 to give the Q a massive percentage dent. OUCH.

A Stephen Bradbury like victory for the Has Been's last week........but I'll take it Reb ;) A very strange Supercoach week in a very strange Supercoach season. I hate to think what the bye rounds are going to look like with the shite bench cover most of us all have

17 Q Before You 1 4 10089 10421 96.81 4
18 Underdogs 1 4 9844 10542 93.38 4

Some of the top teams appear to have identified themselves in the 5th round but the highlight of the win was the classic contest between Buddy Franklin and Hondo. Hondo are the leading team in scoring in the entire Hogg so far this year (both teams have knocked off Daisy) and they scored an impressive 2171 in a week where many coaches were struggling to collect 2000. But this wasn't enough to stop the league leaders as Buddy Franklin the SuperCoach side went as well as Buddy Franklin the player did at the SCG. Buddy booted an amazing 2274 to beat Hondo's excellent score by over a hundred. Buddy is looking to be the first Division I premier to win the Hogg Premier League the next season.

Delicious is another side who look the real deal as they disposed of a disappointing Poon Army. Captain Who smashed the REBCats with a 2158 which was more than enough to contain a side with underperforming rookies on the field while Toby Greene looked on from the bench. The SHARKS also hit back hard in yet another high quality match as they defeated an unlucky Eckys Fevolas who managed 2152 as a losing score.

Possibly the smallest winner was the biggest this week. Bens Rolfsburgers somehow managed to preserve that enviable win loss record despite only carding 1938 in an unimpressive eight point win over a Q Before You who have clearly been cursed this season. A couple of other teams also look to be in bother. The Underdogs are having their worst SuperCoach season ever and their team is a real mess at the moment. Sharksta racked up a second straight sub 1800 which enabled Richo Richo to get back on the winning list. Les's Men also took a fair hit as the mighty Pool Swimmers racked up an impressive 2184 which gave them a huge percentage boost.

If you can win scoring low, I'd take that over losing high. Hondo is number one in scoring but the premiership table doesn't look quite as rosy. Still, on current form, Buddy Franklin appears to have us all covered by some distance, but we thought that about Adelaide last week. ;)

Buddy Franklin was certainly lucky with my Sydney players (4) combining for 540 points. Certainly got me back on track.

Thanks for the write up Reb, but Hondo still the man to catch, regardless of ladder position.

Your side is very strong in terms of rookies off field with a lot of value picks. No Bont, Pendles or Rocky for you yet you scored massively.

Jones, Heeney & Hannas were huge on Sunday for you. Luckily I also had Buddy.

With Marchbank, Witts and Ryder going big for me I thought I would sneak the win but it wasn't to be.

Out...Otten and Hampton. Tried carrying them for so long, cant carry their 50's every week now. Comp is too tough. Also not a great week to bring in Pendles.

Stinker Sunday for me. My plan for the week Hampton to Merret via DPP and Butler to Heeney (got rid of Beams the week before so had a stack of cash).

When Newman wasn't named (f....off Longmire) decided I couldn't risk carrying so many non-playing rookies into the byes and traded Newman to Merret. Looked alright Sat night after Merrets big score.

Was going to do the Heeney trade Sunday morning but got tied up with Mothers Day prep and by the time I remembered it was 10 mins into 1st qtr of Richmond game. Also meant I'd buggered up the vc on Dangerfield and Sandy was my capt. Ended up with Buttler's 39 v Henney 130 and lost by 80 points

Then I read the paper at lunch today and see Newman was a late in and scored 150 and went up $60k while Hampton and Butler both lost cash.

17 Q Before You 1 5 12049 12678 95.04 4
18 Underdogs 1 5 11841 12738 92.96 4

While it's still too early to be talking about relegation bun fights and double chance jostling it appears that the nine sides who won this week are the best nine sides in the comp. The top seven from last week all consolidated their position while Pool Swimmers jumped into the eight at the expense of Hips Don't Lie and Ecky has been slowly stalking the top eight as well.

Some of the teams in the bottom half of the ladder are struggling badly. This can probably be put down to Adam Treloar and Toby Greene. Sideways trades are not a good look so the unavailability of players really hurts you in this league. Yeah, Treloar sucks balls but Toby Greene goes all right. Interesting to note that SHARKS traded Greene while the rest of us sucked it up and copped low scores. Which method works out the best in the end will be telling.

Unlike last week, no real massive scoring but this didn't apply to Poon Army who racked up a healthy 2257 to smash Q who are having a dog of a season so far. Underdogs also can't buy a win and they got done again despite scoring a few more points than they have in the last couple of rounds.

Such is the stranglehold that the top teams have over those in the bottom half, the top seven positions of the ladder did not change as a result of the round seven matches in the Hogg Premier League. While Buddy Franklin deserves the plaudits, Hammo's Poon Army has topped the league in scoring for the second week in a row to defeat the hapless SHARKS by over three hundred points. Could it be that the inaugural champion is going to add a second title to his cabinet ten years after winning his first?

Some of the teams from down below showed a bit of fight. Hips Don't Lie displaced the Pool Swimmers after outclassing the Poolies last weekend but Hippys are hardly battlers, The REBCats snapped a two game losing streak to revive their season with a win over the Honey Badgers who failed to capitalise on the Paddy bonanza and they chased points all weekend. The Underdogs hit back after several poor performances to knock off the Longwood Lions who missed the opportunity to keep in touch with the top eight.

Reigning premier Richo Richo scored well again and lost again. Richo is batting well but not making runs as they became Buddy's seventh victim of the season. At the opposite end to Buddy is the Q Man who is enduring his worst Hogg season ever. Delicious flogged Q Before You who can now be called Q Before Nobody as they are all alone at the foot of the ladder with just one win from seven starts.

Round 8 wasn't a great round for a couple of Hogg Premier stalwarts as perpetually successful outfits Hondo SCC and Benny Rolfs were both rolled. It was a case of a few too many premos out for Hondo as they fell short of the resurgent REBCats while Captain Who continued with their impressive run by cleaning up Benny Rolfs and moving to second spot on the ladder. Poon Army has been scoring very well in recent weeks and they did again this week but this time there was no four points for Hammo as Has Been unleashed an even bigger score to keep the Beeners in the hunt for a top eight spot.

The match of the round was between Delicious and Buddy Franklin and valleys became Buddy's latest victim as the ladder leaders remain unbeaten after eight matches. Who can catch the Bud this season? So far all of the challengers are falling short. It is most unusual to see a two game buffer at the top of the Premier League so it's been a super season so far from the buddster with perhaps only Daisy doing it better. Hips Don't Lie and Ecky's Fevolas had solid wins that puts them in the top eight as all of a sudden the Honey Badgers and Pool Swimmers are starting to tread water after looking good things a couple of weeks ago.

At the tail of the field two struggling sides recorded important victories. Q Before You has been having the season from hell and they simply had to defeat the SHARKS who are another side that is struggling to make their mark this season. Q duly got the job done to move off the bottom of the ladder but the job remains ahead of Q as they are still in the relegation zone. Underdogs had a really wobbly patch but they pulled back Les' Men for a massive win for the Dogs who are suddenly seeing a ray of hope in what was looking like a bleak season. While I love a good razz of CoverKing it has been difficult to write him off after he came back from the dead to win the premiership last season. Unless this is part of his clever plan then I reckon he might be in a bit of bother again because he would have pencilled in a win against Longwood Lions. However, the Lions roared and Richo Richo is a bit like his kicking...2-6.

Well played REB. You'd think copping Lloyd's 4 and what looked like a donut from NRoo would have allowed me a win but as you say Rocky and Sandi on the bench and trading out Otten a week early as it turned out cost me.

Oh and your Doch to my Shaw which is proving a weekly hit for me.

My theory is to trade myself to three wins over the bye period and claw myself back into contention. Let's see how that pans out.

Hondo wrote:Well played REB.

I think you beat me by 5 points last year. I was due. ;)

Very happy with my Geelong boys tonight. 281 for Scott Selwood's ton was pretty handy. The other new REBCat Greenwood was handy too.

Buddy Franklin's eight game winning streak came to an end as predicted by Masha himself as he was not set up for the bye round and Alaska swooped. The Lions score was all that scary though so perhaps this boost will be like the Ribwich, for a limited time only. Big winners this week were Hondo and Honey Badgers who had good wins to move into the top eight at the expense of an inconsistent Hips Don't Lie and Eckys Fevolas. The Pool Swimmers scored an important victory by knocking off the Rolfs in a close one. Another big winner from the round was Captain Who as they won the match of the round against the previously in form Poon Army. Hammo made the rookie error of not putting the VC on Danger and he came a cropper against one of the best sides in the Premier League in a result that could cost the Poonies a spot in the top four this year.

It was bad news for the stragglers with the exception of Richo Richo Man who pulled out a good score to keep their premiership defence alive. Underdogs were already struggling against the REBCats and the Sandi late out sealed the deal to see the Catters purring for the first time in years. If Q has had any luck this season it must be bad luck because he got rolled in another close loss despite scoring a respectable 1704 for the round. Ouch! SHARKS have sunk to the bottom of the Ocean as they were no match for the mighty Delicious who look right at home in the top four.
