Visiting Adelaide question

Postby Rik E Boy » Sun Sep 13, 2015 10:25 pm

My lad and I are coming to Adelaide and we are going to be doing a bit of bussing. Do they still sell Multitrips? And if they do how much are they?

Hey mate,

Most of Adelaide's public transport is done by Metrocard now.

Here's a link for some info: https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au/Tickets/Metrocard

My advice as an infrequent user of public transport is to go metro card. Can never get the single trip tickets in the machine the correct ******* way

They are everywhere mate and save you about 30% per trip, you can recharge them on the train.

An adult day trip is under $10 though if you are going to be commuting plenty of times in the one day, on weekends or school holidays you can have two children travel free with you if you have a day trip ticket.

Me too.
But the last few times I've caught the O-bahn, either the driver didn't want to change a fifty or the machine wasn't working or he couldn't get the 50c change out the money box or some other reason and they've all waved us through.

I had a bus driver get the shits on with me because I only had a $20 note, I was buying a ticket each for my two kids and I, he ended up waving us through aswell after a bit of an argument where I told him I will be staying on the bus.

Surely you should expect to be able to do that, given it'd be about $10

Had one say don't worry about it and as I was catching a tram straight after, so made sure I bought one then even though it was packed, but another seemed to take it as an affront that I would dare try giving him a note.

Perhaps it's an unfortunate sign of the times that it's an OHS&W issue for them to carry much cash.

I got on the train to head into the city with a $20 the smallest I had, the bloke on the train was happy to let me get a ticket in the station, most of the time thats what I do upon arrival into Adelaide.

The chap at the window wasn't as pleased, "Didn't plan your trip very well, did you? Surely you had some change at home?"

"Just give me the ******* ticket" wasn't the answer he hoped for nor expected.

REB, don't forget to take in the sights like Davoren Park or Smithfield which can be helpfully accessed via the Gawler train from the city ;)

REB is a former western suburbs lad, so while he's been a banana bender for some time now, he's not foolish enough to take on that sort of expedition. :D

So am I West Lakes born but I used to think the Outer Harbor line could get a bit wild back in the day. Little did I know!

When I catch the Gawler train once those doors open before scanning my metrocard I say a little prayer "Not today Lord, it's not my time yet" ;)

Really? I've caught the train at all times of day/night and seen little to concern me. Most people are in that coma state that public transport induces among those who are doing their best to avoid eye contact and possibly interacting with someone they don't know.

I'm overdoing it a bit but last week a kid no older than 7 or 8 was letting off a cap gun constantly 2-3 seats behind me. No parents got off by himself at you guessed it Broadmeadows. A couple of weeks go the train goes to take off from Gawler station moves about 5 metres and just stops eventually driver says over the loud speaker the train isn't going anywhere as he's waiting for police attendance due to drunk idiots carrying on in the other carriage.
