Team of the Year.

Postby Lightning McQueen » Mon Aug 10, 2015 11:52 am

Work is a bit slow this morning so I thought I'd see what people's thoughts are on their team of the year.
Here's mine FWIW.

B: Heath Shaw, Michael Hurley, Alex Rance.
HB: Luke Hodge, Jeremy McGovern, Easton Wood.
C: Sam Mitchell, Nat Fyfe, Andrew Gaff.
HF: Dane Swan, Lance Franklin, Paddy Dangerfield.
F: Chad Wingard, Josh Kennedy, Jack Riewoldt.

1R: Todd Goldstein, Scott Pendlebury, Daniel Hannebery.
INT: Stefan Martin, Dave Armitage, Dylan Shiel, Matt Priddis.

These things are always going to come back to an individuals opinion. I'd have Bob Murphy in, and Im not sure that Buddy's done enough this year (even though he's my favourite player).

Yeah, he had good early season form and they've definitely looked half-arsed while he's been under a cloud, I was a little stumped on the true centre half forward role.

The Bobby Murphy one, fair call, Wood, Shaw, Murf, McVeigh, Laird, Burgoyne and plenty more undoubtably could fill in for that role.

Its sooo hard to pick them apart, who misses out?

Surely Luke Beveridge wins coach of the year. Massive effort!

Hinkley won it in 2013, so following that logic it is highly likely.

Great year from the dogs thus far, really have enjoyed watching them play, partly because they remind me so much of the 2014 Port Adelaide :(

Adam Simpson would have to right up there too though, they've been caned as much as anyone injury wise.

Yeah they do, and that will be some great leverage for the coaching staff to really drive home to the players not to buy into their own hype and to keep bringing the effort or our 2016 could be the equivalent of Ports 2015...

Up until a couple of weeks ago he would of been a near certainty. Couple of weeks out injured now and probably "rested" for remainder of season

Would have Nic Nat before Martin but very good side.

Simpson have to be a chance for coach of the year

It certainly isn't mephedrone.

Hurley has been as good as any full back this season, the book isn't closed though on any others that stand up, could always push J.Mc to full back, Rance to CHB and find another running defender to plonk in the pocket.

Nic Nat is a bit up and down for my liking, has the most skill and natural talent but I question whether we see it consistently. I've had both in my DT this season and I guess I've seen Martin's numbers and they're impressive.
Nic Nat's averages
K: 5.8
H: 6
D: 11.8
M: 1.4
T: 3.8
HO: 33.6

Stef Martin's
K: 11.4
H: 9
D: 20.4
M: 6.2
T: 2
HO: 31.3

Martin's numbers are amazing for a ruckman in a struggling team.

I agree with the Adam Simpson call, has been a mastermind after the key injuries his team has endured.

I think Adam Simpson has done a great job this year but Luke Beveridge has been more impressive with the dogs list

I think it will be hard for Martin to get in ahead of Goldy, Niicknat and Jacobs.

It's a tough one, think a great case can be made for both of them.

when you look at other peoples all Australian team you often think....that's not right he shouldn't be in.
then when you try and do a team of your own it is just about impossible..
that being said my two bobs worth is......

franklin out nick riewoldt in....priddis into the 18...somewhere....
this is hard!!!

That's the beauty of it, there's no right or wrong answer, it's purely perception, I too thought Priddis was a shoe in as a starter but if he wasn't on the ball I didn't know where to put him, he's not a wingman.
Saint Nick has had a great year, your call has merit.

Definitely not Goldy, I've preferred him over the other two, Sandi was right up there too, easily the best "tap" ruckman and has been useful around the ground with his 12:1 handball/kick ratio, it does help when you'd be able to change the globes on street lights though.

It's really just a coin toss thing, both have done an amazing job with the roadblocks they've had to detour around.
