Aus v Ind Test Series

Postby bennymacca » Mon Nov 24, 2014 9:24 am

Aussies named their 12 this morning. Starc Doolan and maxwell out, Harris Watson and hazelwood in.

Subject to fitness it looks a much better team than the last one we played in Pakistan.

Will be interesting how they use both marsh and Watson. My feeling is Watson will bowl very little, especially if we are on top.

Will Josh struggle in Domestic cricket ?
If so, how will he go in
Sheffield Shield
One Dayers
20/20
He is young enough , and good enough , to be a very good bowler for NSW in all forms , from here on

Cant see him playing Test Cricket in his current form
Would need to improve a fair bit

Has the potential to play more ODI games
Has played 2 ODI games
1/41[7] v England 2010 as a 19 year old
0/6[2] in a rain interrupted game in England 2013

Squids on the ball
Predicted Hazelwood last January

QUESTION
First Test v India
Siddle or Hazelwood

Siddle gets first crack imo, though the need for someone to bowl lots of overs to take pressure off Harris and Johnson is reduced by having both marsh and Watson in the team

anyone going down to Glenelg Oval to watch the Indians in their first tour match?
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

That's not bad, I might head out tomorrow. I assume it's a 4-Dayer?

Big fan of Hazelwood!!!

Siddle defiantly deserves first crack but I won't be to disappointed to see Haxelwood given a go.

What's up with Pattinson these days?? Still injured?

AUSTRALIAN SQUAD
FWIW With my CURRENT ratings
5 Being a pass mark

3.2 CLARKE... Hopelessly out of form and fitness ,but can be a 9.0 at series end
4.5 HADDIN.. Batting slipping , should improve rating against pop gun attack
9.0 HARRIS....One of the worlds most destructive new ball bowlers
5.0 HAZELWOOD ...??? Who knows
9.8 JOHNSON..The best player in world cricket
3.5 LYON......... Struggling , could be replaced by a leg spinner by the end of the series
6.0 MARSH......Looks the goods , could emerge as a star by the series end
6.0 ROGERS....Does the job , age does not weary
4.2 SIDDLE.....Im a great fan of Pete , but since he went bananas his form started slipping
8.9 SMITH....East Coast Peroxide Don , Im amazed at his improvement , as would WCP + TSG
8.9 WARNER...Matchwinner, should clobber the Indians this summer
5.3 WATSON...Bowling slipping , must bat 3 , needs to make BIG scores because of the Marsh factor

Australia will destroy the Indians this summer

I rate Peter Handscombe as a better bat and a long term proposition

He only bats at 6 for vic though.

Burns would be in with a shot too imo.

Does anyone know how to use statsguru for first class records? I want to work out the first class batting averages of all current Australian players.

Quotes by Kohli

" Theres going to be more aggression this time around with the whole squad.
Its all about going out there and not backing off
Thats how you play Test cricket."

On India v Mitchell Johnson
"... technically equipped to negate the express left armer in bouncy conditions."

" Were here to play aggressive cricket, play the brand of cricket that Australia plays."

Good attitude judging by his comments to the press
But I dont share his confidence

Australia 4-0 for me
The best chance the Indians have is the Adelaide Oval test if its similar pitch to the ones used in the SS this season

Their batting is incredibly strong, but they still have popgun pace bowling and as such will struggle.

D Paterson 12 *
I Taylor 3*
J Cook
M Morgan
G Ashmore
C Ridley
MJ Clarke
E Parmakelis

R Keogh

Two declarations , ahem
Western Suburbs to resume batting next week on day 2
Look who was listed to bat at 7 for Western Suburbs on day 1 ....
