Port Adelaide 2015

Talk on the national game

Port Adelaide 2015

Postby valleys07 » Tue Nov 18, 2014 2:21 pm

So the 1-4 year players kicked off pre-season yesterday at the uni loop, for the standard 3k time trial. The rest of the main group returns on December 1st- departing for Dubai on the 5th.

Tom Clurey ended up taking out the time trial, ahead of Sam Colquhoun and Karl Amon. Massive effort from Sam, considering he is still on the comeback trail from a knee recon. Has done a mountain of work at the club whilst the rest of the group have been away on holidays. Will definitely challenge Impey for that small defenders role.

Who is your pre-season bolter for round 1 selection?

Plenty of talk about Karl Amon perhaps breaking into the line up next season. One to watch over the pre-season, especially if Monfries and Ryder are handed penalties, he is one i'd like to see fill that half forward role- exquisite user of the footy and a great runner.

Can we fit Clurey into this side? 190cm players with 15+ beep test results certainly dont come around every day- and our back 6 appears pretty set. Can he become a big bodied midfielder, or a forward? Or are we destined to lose a couple of promising players elsewhere, as our 22 becomes settled in pursuit of a flag?

Chat away, fellas.

And a fair assessment too.

I am just becoming increasingly sceptical, regarding the availability of Monfries and Ryder.

I personally think we will be facing the season without these 2.

As usual mate, Your pretty much spot on.

There seems to be some love from the club for O'Shea although I think you've got his spot in the pecking order spot on. I really love what Hombsch give us. I hope he doesn't drop down the order, But who does he replace in that back 6??? Probably only Pittard depending on match-ups. I guess no sides plays more than 2 deep forward so Pittard's rebound off half back could be useful, Although Pittard with ball in hand I am always nervous.

I'd have my round 1 side looking slightly different- I think Jack Hombsch will be a starter in the 18 most weeks, and a midfielder starting on the pine. This wont mean much though, as rotations usually kick in before the 2 minute mark of the 1st quarter anyway!

My round 1 line up (pending possible sanctions):

B: Broadbent, Carlisle, Jonas

HB: Pittard, Trengove, Hombsch

C: Polec, Wines, Hartlett

HF: Wingard, Westhoff, Monfries

F: Gray, Schulz, Ryder

R: Lobbe, Boak, Cornes

I: Ebert, White, Neade, Young

Emeg: Moore, O’Shea

I don't rate him ahead of Monfries, Wingard and Gray, no. Having said that, Gray spent more time as a mid in '14 and will spend even more there,IMO, in '15 as his fitness base increases after two full pre-seasons under Burgess after his knee.

With Boak, Hartlett, Polec and White goal kicking mids and Wingard and Monfries the bulk of their time as forwards I don't quite see room for Neade in the side.

Will Paddy? time will tell...

I reckon he's a good get, but there is a massive amount of pressure on him.

I'll just check, was it Keith Thomas, Ken Hinkley or Travis Boak who said he was the "missing link to Port winning a premiership", or was it a beat up headline used by mainstream media and interweb boffins?

Pretty fair team port have. Depth still an issue though, but if they get their best team on the park more often than not I think they will finish top 4

Not as much as getting a 9 year contract.

the only thing a west coast player would get 9 years is for a jail sentence...
